A railway journey is a convenient way to explore the country. No matter whether you are after a quintessentially old school experience with a slow long-haul train or a super modern highspeed express, a train travel allows you to get to your destination in style and enjoy the trip at its most. Thai Railway is one of the operators you can book a train ride with. Before confirming your booking, remember to check the date of your travel, class, price and conditions of your fare.

What are the Most Popular Routes of Thai Railway?
Here are some of the routes offered by Thai Railway which enjoy the greatest popularity with travellers:
What are the Train Classes & Prices of Thai Railway?
Depending on the length of your trip and your preferences you can choose a first or second class ticket in a sleeper coach for an overnight trip or opt for a hard or soft seat if available. Note that the choice of ticket classes depends both on the route and the length of your trip. Basically, your train may feature first class berths but you will not be able to book one if you are doing just a short two-hour stretch. In general, second class berths are a good choice for longer trips, and soft seats get you covered if your train ride is supposed to take under 4-5 hours.
Pros & Cons of Train Travel
Pros of Train Travel
The best thing about railway travel is no traffic jams. Even on rush-hour, long weekends or during the high season
An easy online booking process – you do not need to go to the railway station, which was the case in many places not so long ago!
Prices for train tickets are usually more affordable compared to airplane tickets yet for certain destinations and trips the total travel time can be almost the same
While rail travel is obviously slower than air travel, railway stations are often located in the centre of the city which saves you a sack of time getting to/from there while airports are almost always are quite a long way out of the city
Travelling by night allows you to save on a hotel room and sleep well at the same time – opposite to a night bus where even the sleeping class is a huge compromise
On certain routes luxury service is available
Cons of Train Travel
For longer trips a train ride is definitely more time consuming than air journeys
Trains do ride on schedule but being out of schedule is not unheard of for train travel – and delays can be huge, so if you are planning a connection to your flight, carefully check the time your train arrives at the station and think twice.
Cleanliness is sometimes an issue with second and third class tickets, and with toilets, too.
If your train makes a lot of stops, in some cases it is difficult to figure out when to get off as stops are not always clearly announced or marked with the exception of an electronic screen.
Train was punctual, stuff spoke a bit of English, not very friendly but helpful. The bedsheets were already laid out. The blanket was as in a plastic bag, sealed, but it didn’t smell clean. They leave the white bright light on the whole night, but at least you have a curtain to close yourself off. Comfortable ladder to climb up. You had two toilets in the wagon, a sitting one and a squatting one, with toilet paper, and the sink had a soap for washing your hands.
The train has come and departed on time. The boarding process has been organized well, and it was easy to find the boarding zone at the station, even being a foreigner, who came late before boarding and has been in a hurry. The train itself is not new, however the seats are clean, you could recline the seat, there's retractable stand for the legs and overall enough space even if you're of a hulky build.

I had 3 bookings with 12Go. The first 2 went very well. The booking was easy and I received the vouchers very rapidly. I feel obviously confident for the last one.
I strongly recommend the service.

Booking through 12Go came with unexpected extra charges on my card, so keep that in mind.
The train left about 20 minutes late, but we still arrived at the following stations on time, which was nice. The ride was a little bumpy but nothing too uncomfortable. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean and didn't smell bad, and the bunk beds were very sturdy.
One thing to note is that the staff make up the beds quite early like 4pm. If you're assigned a top bunk, you'll have to climb up and stay there for the rest of the ride.
There is a small onboard cafeteria, but the food is overpriced, and the prices charged didn't match what was listed on the menu, which was disappointing.
The biggest downside was the guards, who were not very friendly or welcoming. Since there’s no announcement of which station is the next so you have to follow along on your phone and see your current location to know when to get out. I asked for helped but they screamed and said not their problem. Overall, the trip was acceptable, but there were a few issues that made the experience less enjoyable.

I took the train from Lamphun, despite being hot the 2nd class fan was cool as all the windows were open. The seats were comfortable, plenty of leg room.
A beautiful scenic journey.
At Den Chai I took a shared truck to Phrae, 60 bhat.

I would recommend that 12go indicate the exact departure station and time on the ticket. I booked a ticket from Hua Hin station for 6:40 am but my ticket read 5:12 am.5:12 am was departure time from the 1st station and not Hua hin station. It was confusing to me and I had to leave my hotel so early.I contacted 12 Go but I didn't get a clear answer. I got the answer at the station.
