Everything was good and on time, except about people smoking cigarettes inside the train all the time.

My journey was a 6 berth sleeper from Ninh Binh to DaNang. It was an experience worth doing but I wouldn't rush to do it again - rather I would pay a few dollars extra to go to the nearest airport and fly. On boarding, I had someone in my bunk and had to get them to move. A family of 6 was using 4 bunks and had used most of the floor space with their luggage which included something leaking. The train carriages are old, and it is at times a very rough ride. Happy to say toilets were clean, but they are very small.

The beds where clean, we had good and warm enough blankets and a perfekt sized pillow. In our opinion it was good that the train had smooth dampers, which despite the wobbling of the train made it possible for us to sleep. We had a small cake a banana and milk as breakfast, got 1 small bottle of water and 1 Coke only the hot water for tea or coffee was missing. Toilets we're OK.

Good enough, not great, but Surprisingly OK in VIP cabin 2x on SE1. The Cabin was fine. Bed comfortable enough, wide & long enough for 1.80m. The crew came & only tidied the beds as we were getting off in Danang but didn't change any linen at all. I think the linen had already been used before us but it looked clean enough. Toilet was disgusting but later it was cleaned to Vietnam clean. Lunch was served to us in the cabin & was surprisingly OK & tasty. Only 2 water bottles & packet type"coffee" provided. No beers or soft drinks or fruit as suggested. Train departed on time but 1 hour delayed on arrival. Ninh Binh station was in almost darkness when we arrived & we though we had a problem but then found 2 local ladies also waiting so we're reassured. We were the only 4 to get on at 00.15 & it was a little creepy. The station has sign to advise where to wait depending on carriage. When the train arrives, a crew puts out a small sign with the carriage number. The lesser class carriages looked fairly grim & I don't think we would try those. Only saw 2 very small baby cockroaches when the lunch was served. Reviewed by a retired couple from New Zealand.

Seats were very short so could not fully lie down and were just generally uncomfortable. Got dropped off at a random spot on the side of the road at 4am and had to crawl inside the underside of the bus to get our luggage. Very chaotic experience.

The 1st class, 4 berth compartments are as expected and previously shown in the pictures. There was a USB charging point at each bed. Unfortunately it was very loud and restless on the train during the journey due to the other passengers. I would take the train again on my next trip.
