Hanoi to Da Nang Destination Reviews

EM
The service was friendly and helpful, offering drinks and snacks periodically; we also enjoyed the complimentary snacks/water. The toilet and washrooms were clean. The beds however were hard and uncomfortable, and we found we were sharing with an older man as a group of young women which we weren’t warned about.

It was ok. On the bus itself we could not certain certain beds, we have no option for that. Also the drivers and staff speak only Vietnamese, no English communication at all, so we don’t know when or where we stop, for how long, or anything that’s going on, No English communications at all,.

Great service and experience from Laman Express. We chose the 2 berth cabin as didn't fancy sharing it with others. The staff was very helpful with any questions we had. The cabin was clean and so were the beds. There's selection of snacks available in the cabin for free along with 2 bottles of water and beer or tea. More light snacks can be ordered online. The toilets were okay. There are 2 sockets under the table for charging whatever you might need to charge. There's aircon inside the cabin (on the ceiling) which you can adjust to your liking. It's not easy to sleep on a moving train like this. The noise you can combat with earphones or earplugs, but the shaking is not something you can control. While the beds are okay, it won't change the fact that the whole cabin is moving as the train is going along. This might not be for everyone. A few tips: Get some food and/or drinks for takeaway before you board the train as the selection is not great. If you want to keep the door ever so slightly open without listening to the constant banging on the rails, you can jam the small leather booklet or the slippers between the door and the frame to stop it from making a noise.

Bumpy trip. No information from the drivers about when we come from to Da Nang. They just show the direction to the toilet the i many time try to ask for the time we come to Da Nang. They just let me know i must go to the toilet. They dont understand english and tried not to understand. My taxi return without me. It feel like a cow transport because they Said hurry hurry and not try to understand😅 A car take me from my Hotel. They send me a message with information before the tour.

This should not be sold as premium. It is just average at best. Only good part is the option to have a 2 bed compartment. There wasn't any coffee, beer or coke in the carriage. Only saw the Laman Express staff member at very start of journey when he gave us a fruit juice and then when we got off at end of journey. Menu on train was awful. Only offered water, beer or a noodle pot. Can't even order a coffee when you want one. Have to wait until the Vietnamese Railway guys are passing in the morning. Laman Express guy certainly wasn't busy doing anything else! Check in at Mango Hotel is just sitting in a hotel lobby and I had to buy my own drinks.

Should I tip taxi in Da Nang?

Tipping taxi drivers in Da Nang is not a common practice, but it is appreciated. Most fares include the cost of the ride, and drivers don’t expect additional tips. However, rounding up to the nearest 10,000 VND or leaving small change is seen as courteous, especially for good service. Some taxi companies, such as Mai Linh or Vinasun, have consistent pricing and reliable drivers. If you receive exceptional service, such as help with heavy luggage or efficient route navigation, a modest tip is a kind gesture. Keep in mind that cash is preferred since digital tipping options may not be available.
  • Standard tipping: Rounding up the fare.
  • Cash tips are most appreciated.
  • Helpful for exceptional service but not required.
Offering a tip is entirely at your discretion but shows gratitude in a way drivers understand.

Is it better to live in Hanoi or Da Nang?

The decision depends on lifestyle preferences, work, and climate. Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, offers rich history, cultural landmarks, and a larger urban economy, making it ideal for career opportunities and experiencing northern traditions. Da Nang, a coastal city, provides a more relaxed lifestyle with clean beaches, modern infrastructure, and a warmer, tropical climate. It’s popular among expats seeking a balance between work and leisure, especially with its proximity to UNESCO sites like Hoi An and My Son.
  • Hanoi: Capital, cultural hub, cooler climate.
  • Da Nang: Coastal, relaxed, warmer weather.
  • Key factors: career, climate, lifestyle.
Both cities offer distinct advantages, so evaluate personal priorities when choosing.
