Pros: - there was only something like a million cockroaches - and there could be ten million or more ... - they didn't walk on people ... - in the morning they all disappeared (went to sleep) (it was only after 10 hours of travel - and finally you could sleep quite easily) ... Cons: - no one checks the tickets on the train :P :) - one lady said that she had a mouse! it's unfair! I would like it too!

The bus drive didn’t speak English, he locked up the toilet on the bus which was not available during our 16 hour bus ride with only 2 stops one was at 3am. He did not wake anyone up for the break either which most people slept through. We weren’t allow to put our luggage’s below the bus so it was cramped in the already tiny hallway of the bus. Would catch the bus if it was last option but definitely will avoid doing it again.

It’s an experience in every way; yes the toilets are horrible, the beds are hard as a rock and the cockroaches having fun with al the food/people. But still nothing unexpected in a country with this climate and development. The scenery is beautiful, have a chat with other travelers and be rewarded when you make it to the taxi with good airco. We loved it!!

Great info on airlines, flight times and prices on the booking site. It was so easy that when I turned up at Vietnam airlines to book in for my flight with the print off voucher I half expected something to go wrong. Nope,no probs at all—thanks for a very streamlined process

6 of us booked a 6 hard berth. The beds feel like solid gym mats with no room for headspace- but yes you can sleep on them fine if you’re tired. The train is pretty bumpy and the toilets are in AWFUL condition. Either do not pee for the entire trip or take a shewee (females- helps you aim!) it also arrived 1.5hr late (can’t guarantee times but giving honest review) decent for the money we paid, just a very long night

Excellent, clean cabin with refreshments provided. Check in process very smooth with a drink on arrival. Slept soundly on the long journey. We arrived an hour late with no update from staff but other than that, it was a thrilling experience

Toilets where vile and had the seat above the toilet so half leg room was cut off and it smelt. Other than this was tolerable.

It was as to be expected, I think. We had a six bed sleeper. The train left on time. It was comfortable enough and cleaner than I anticipated. The only challenge was the noise. Other passengers talked loudly in the halls and their rooms. It was impossible to sleep after about 4am as a result. But maybe that is just an authentic experience. If you need a clean night of sleep, don’t take the train. If you can roll with a night of interrupted sleep, you’ll be okay. Bring your own food. Zip your bags — we took a mouse stowaway along to our hotel. The train arrived in DaNang about an hour late, but again, this is not surprising or worth complaining about. Honestly, if the other passengers had been quiet, it would have been a very reasonable and comfortable ride.

The receptionist that helped us get on the train and to the right berths was very efficient. It was interesting to share the room with two young ladies from Paris. The food and drinks in the room were a very nice touch. The restrooms were a little messy but seemed to be cleaned up occasionally. Seeing the scenery of the common villages, the mountains, and the ocean made the trip very worthwhile.

A bumpy ride with a great view. The conductor was not really that nice, and I got eaten by bedbugs, other than that, an ok trip.

1st class didnt match our expectations, when we tried to contact 12go.asia noone answered (tried about 6 times over a 45-min period). The staff on the train said we did not have tickets for 1st class. We ran around with several members from the staff on hanoi station 50 minutes who tried to help is since they all didnt think we got what we paid for. Eventually they said they'd upgrade us if 1st class had not been full already. Still not sure wether or not we actually got what we paid for but several members of the staff at the railway station reviewed our booking several times and also tried to contact the booking agent without success. Running around with all that baggage in that heat was really not fun. We did however arrive at our final destination

Read so many indifferent reviews so wasn’t expecting much. Laman Express therefore exceeded my expectations. Check-in was professional and efficient, with a free drink to boot. Boarding was easy and we were led to our 4 berth soft sleeper compartment (family of 4 with 2 large teenage boys, so a bit of a squeeze!). Compartment, bedding, toilets and gangway were spotless and the attendant very attentive. Departed on time and laid back to enjoy the ride, which was great. Woke up to awesome views after a decent night’s sleep. The rest of the family slept for 11 hrs plus. Free Wi-fi (a little bit flaky), beer, cokes, water, pastries and snacks. Quicker to fly and probably the same cost once you factor in a hotel room or 2, but a real experience in this wonderful country. Do it once; you won’t regret it.

As railway service requires a large amount of infrastructure, most railway companies are government-owned and are a part of the national transport system.

One of the best advantages of travelling by train is that railway stations are often conveniently located within or very near major cities and urban areas. Immediately on arrival to their destination, travellers find themselves in close proximity to important facilities like hotels, supermarkets, and hospitals.

If you travel with a lot of bags and luggage, trains are your best option. Luggage weight limits on trains are rather flexible and allow you to carry multiple bags with you.

Special or luxury trains feature sufficient legroom which allows you to stretch your legs and relax. In comfort and space these train seats can be compared to business class airplane seats.

Similar to buses, trains can provide a variety of amenities to make your travel more comfortable and enjoyable. Modern trains have WIFI service, a snack counter and a drinking bar. Onboard toilets can be a life saver for travellers with queasy stomachs.

Lastly, unlike buses and other overland means of transport, trains are very rarely involved in accidents.
