Miguel VWe arrived at the ferry terminal two hours before departure, as recommended. At the entrance, security staff directed us to line up in queue number 2. After waiting there for around 35 minutes, we were suddenly told that this was not the correct queue and that we had to move to another one.
While repositioning the car, another staff member informed us that we should not have been sent to that queue at all and directed us to the information desk instead. At the information desk, we were told that we could not board the ferry that day.
The reason was unexpected. We were driving a rented Nissan Kicks, which we later learned is classified as a hybrid vehicle. The ferry company only allows electric or hybrid vehicles on specific days and specific ferries. This information was not clearly communicated to us beforehand.
The company suggested that we leave the vehicle behind and travel to Koh Samui as passengers, and that the car would be transported on the following Monday. This was not an option for us, as the rental car had to be returned at Koh Samui airport the same evening.
After further discussion, the staff member at the information desk suggested we try the ferry company located about 100 meters away. We did so and were able to purchase a ticket for our hybrid vehicle without any issue. We departed only about 1/2 hour later than originally planned and arrived at 7:00 PM as scheduled.
Overall, this was a very unpleasant and frustrating experience. In today’s environment, it is difficult to understand why a ferry company cannot accommodate hybrid vehicles on a regular basis, especially when a competitor next door can. We also lost more than ฿850 due to the initial ticket.
As a result, I cannot recommend this company to tourists traveling to Koh Samui with a rental car. If you are renting a vehicle, make sure to check whether it is classified as a hybrid. Otherwise, you may face the same situation and be forced to change ferry operators at short notice.

Maciej CFirstly, I bought a more expensive fast ferry ticket, but instead of taking 45 minutes, we took a regular ferry, almost an hour. Secondly, we were supposed to leave at 11:00, but we actually left at 11:30... hence the lower-than-expected rating. I should have paid for the regular ferry, not the more expensive fast ferry.
