Hanoi to Hue Destination Reviews

AA
The whole booking experience was very good
Hanoi to Hue, Train #SE19 VIP 2 Berth, Lotus Train, Aug 24, 2025

The offer is pitched as a premium service but the rolling stock is the same. The noise, clanging ,banging and rocking of the carriage is incredibly loud and non stop for 13 hours. It’s like a cattle car with a mattress and a few snacks. The bedding smelt of others body odour and if someone smoked at a stop it seeped in and filled the cabin. We didn't have any great expectations but thought it had to be better than the regular sleepers, but wasn't really and not worth the extra cost. Until they get decent rolling stock it is just mutton dressed up as lamb but it’s all part of the experience and we survived and made it to Hue !

The train staff are very rude, we were thrown out of the cabin 15 minutes before the train arrived which was over an hour late. We really felt like we were being treated like cattle. Very bad experience!

Booked a NewLivitrans Deluxe 4x sleeper and got an old one operated by Vietnam railways despite the fact that the NewLivitrans Coaches where operating.

It was a great night train experience, there was much assistance and we had a good sleep. Although it was not so much better then a previous experience we had with a night train. The train was not super new or experienced way better then others.

The cabin was OK, the sheets were stained and the pillows smelled pretty bad. The train makes a lot of stops and the beds were very hard. People smoke on the train which comes through the air-conditioning. The toilets were ok though one overflowed at the start of the trip. The staff are quite loud. The kods loved it and slept fine, me and my wife didn't really sleep.

Unlike buses or taxis which have numerous companies offering their services, train service is usually offered by just one major company in each country. As railway service requires a large amount of infrastructure, most railway companies are government-owned and are a part of the national transport system.

One of the best advantages of travelling by train is that railway stations are often conveniently located within or very near major cities and urban areas. Immediately on arrival to their destination, travellers find themselves in close proximity to important facilities like hotels, supermarkets, and hospitals.

If you travel with a lot of bags and luggage, trains are your best option. Luggage weight limits on trains are rather flexible and allow you to carry multiple bags with you.

Special or luxury trains feature sufficient legroom which allows you to stretch your legs and relax. In comfort and space these train seats can be compared to business class airplane seats.

Similar to buses, trains can provide a variety of amenities to make your travel more comfortable and enjoyable. Modern trains have WIFI service, a snack counter and a drinking bar. Onboard toilets can be a life saver for travellers with queasy stomachs.

Lastly, unlike buses and other overland means of transport, trains are very rarely involved in accidents.
