Bangkok to Koh Samui Destination Reviews

The bus ride was fantastic, I've never slept THIS well on a bus before but it was 8h straight. Fantastic experience!! The switch to the boat though? I got thrown into a different minivan in the middle of the street and later while everyone got to go on their ferry I had to hope back on to go to a different ferry port where I got to find out that raja ferries look like they can barely make it across the seas. The service there wasn't really good either, everything was dirty, broken, old. The toilets clogged. If you take this trip, maje sure it's not a raja ferry boat. Just go straight to Nathon instead of Lipa Noi.

We were scammed. At 5 AM, everyone was left at a abandoned place, everyone had to pay extra to leave the place. It was terrible.

It was for is as a family with three grown up Sons a special experience. The bus trip was well arranged, the transfer to the ferry as well, but I think that the Thai people were a little unfriendly at boarding the bus in Bangkok. To be honest this bus trip was better suitable for youngsters backpacking in Thailand. Advantages: very cheap and transportation from Bangkok to Koh Samui was ok. Disadvantage: toilet in bus terrible, only one stop on a 10h drive. Positive: I slept well (we had the night bus).

The pictures of the bus were not accurate to the actual bus. The screens on the seats were missing or broken, the usb chargers were not working, the reclining leg part was broken and the restroom smelled really bad. I chose the more expensive bus thinking it was worth paying a bit more but it definately wasn’t. In other long ride buses, some food middle way was including with the ticket, this one wasn’t. I didn’t know this was a 3 leg transit and we had to wait for a whole hour after drop off from the first bus, to ride another hour on another bus to the pier.

We selected the VIP bus and had a perfectly comfortable trip. Seats have loads of legroom and recline almost all the way back. Air con wasn’t too cold. A blanket is provided as well as a small bottle of water, juice, and a snack (a little cake bar thing). The toilet is basic but does the job! In terms of the trip it’s 5-6hours then a stop for an hour or so at about 1am, then continue until 5-6amish at which point we stopped again and changed to a minibus. We got the ferry around 9:30am. At each stop there were food options but limited so probably wise to bring snacks if you’re fussy. Decent way to get down to the islands on a budget.

The bus was fully booked, and I was seated next to a fellow passenger who, unfortunately, took up a significant portion of my seat due to her size. As a result, I found myself unable to sit properly throughout the entire night, with very limited space. Her body overlapped into my seat by at least a third, and I had her leg in direct contact with mine for most of the trip. I am a little person, and even for me it was extremely tight and uncomfortable. I was unable to rest or sleep, and overall I did not feel that I received the full seat space that I had paid for.
