Koh Lanta to Phuket Destination Reviews

AT
Efficient booking and nice ferry. Not too crowded and had toilets and snack bar. Only suggestion is to have better communication when we had to swap boats as that was confusing.

I booked the Truck/ferry transfer from Koh Lanta to Phuket. The ticket we bought picks you up from your hotel in Koh Lanta and drops you at your hotel in Kata. In the end we got there but the communication was very poor with this company. I booked with another company for another transfer and they Whatsapped me throughout to keep me updated, but this company did not contact me at all. I had to google their company and find a contact number and had to call to confirm that someone was coming to pick us up. The driver finally came 20 minutes later than booked. They pick you up in a truck and your luggage either goes on the top or behind the drivers seat. We had 1 piece suitcase and a 1 carry-on luggage each, which was fine. The driver then drops you to Koh Lanta pier and it’s compete and total chaos there. Everyone’s shouting at you, gives you a sticker, doesn’t explain anything and your totally confused. We booked an 11.30am pick up from our hotel but the ferry didn’t actually depart until 1pm and I think it only departs a few times a day so an early transfer may be a waste of time. When we got to the ferry we had to transfer at Phi Phi mid ocean! Then you get out on a bigger ferry which takes you to Phuket. When you the go Phuket again, it’s completely chaotic and confusing as you have to try and find your driver. They could tell you to go to driver “11” but in our case there were 2 driver “11”s so it was confusing. All in all you’ll get from point A to B but it’s not a smooth ride and it can be very chaotic and confusing.

I told them twice (one time was the night before) that my pick up location had changed, they still went to the wrong pick up location. However, even though this happened the ferry was held for us and the rest of the journey was fine

Pick up was one hour too late, different vans an busses, drop of point was the wrong place. I have booked a station near my hotel to save money. But the last bus didn’t go there. I needed another taxi to hotel.

Everything was well managed. Had a good time on both ferrys and a smooth ferry-change near Koh PhiPhi. On the ferry they sold us a taxi transfer to our hotel in Phuket. The price for the taxi was a little bit high and the management at the arrival a little bit chaotic / hectic, but all in all it was a good experience. The operator also did a great job to contact me before the trip via whatsapp because 12goAsia had no option to give him my hotel adress for the transfer pick up to the ferry. As 12goAsia service did not send my information (added by e-mail directly after booking) to him in time, i was happy, that the operator himself contacted me.

Excellent driver, prompt, and fast. It saved us much time and headache had we chosen a different service.

The ferries themselves were okay but the A/C was too strong. Instead of three hours, the trip from Koh Lanta to Phuket took 4 hours. The worst thing, however, was that on both ferries the customers were aggressively pushed into booking a transfer from the pier to their destination. The offered price (100 Baht per person) was much too expensive and customers were lied to: The workers said that there‘s no other option than taxis (wrong: there‘s a bus for 15 Baht!) and that sometimes tourists had to walk into town… The public bus was empty, climatized and driven by a very kind driver 😁

Better hospitals: Koh Lanta or Phuket?

Phuket generally offers better hospital facilities compared to Koh Lanta. Phuket has several international-standard hospitals, including Bangkok Hospital Phuket and Phuket International Hospital, which cater to both locals and tourists with comprehensive medical services. These hospitals are well-equipped and have English-speaking staff.

Koh Lanta has more limited medical facilities, with only smaller clinics and a local hospital that can handle basic medical needs. For serious medical conditions or emergencies, patients are often transferred to Trang or Phuket.

For travelers needing reliable healthcare, Phuket is the preferable choice. Always ensure you have travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, especially when visiting areas with limited healthcare facilities.

Yet a similarly popular and good option to be considered, especially in the low season, is travelling via Krabi by van and bus. That said, there are also direct highspeed ferries, van transfers and taxis plying this route. Travelling overland can take you anywhere from 5 hours up as the road distance between Koh Lanta and Phuket is about 240 km. Ferris can do a much faster job as they have to travel 100-120 km, depending on the route.

If you would like to dock at the Nam Chai Pier, Phuket, make your way to the Sala Dan Pier, Koh Lanta at 8.00am. You’ll require THB 1,000 for this trip.

There is also at least one Sea Angel Cruise boat leaving Koh Lanta Ban Saladan Pier to any hotel in Phuket for THB 1,400 at 8.00am, but it calls to Koh Phi Phi en route what brings the total travel time to whooping 9 hours and thus is not recommended.

As mentioned above, a popular option is to take a larger express boat from Koh Lanta to Phuket which leaves at 1.30pm (check the departure time as it may vary). From Koh Lanta to Phuket by Taxi

Although expensive, this is the easiest and probably most comfortable way to get to Phuket from Koh Lanta rather than by sea which can be uncomfortable during stormy weather.

Recommended operators include Lanta Gardenhill or Andaman Taxi Service. Both have 3- and 9-passenger options and it is probably a better idea to opt for the latter and the price difference is not that big but level of comfort is higher. A 9-pax air-conditioned van from any hotel on Koh Lanta to the Phuket Airport will cost you THB 4,500 and to Patong, Karon, and Kata in Phuket for THB 5,300.

Note: Lanta Gardenhill does not allow for cancellations or refunds.

Vans bring you to the Krabi bus terminal from where big buses and vans to Phuket operate – you will not need to change the terminal. There is a great choice of direct and passing through buses to Phuket. All of them take about 4 hours and tickets should cost just under THB200. In Phuket, buses arrive to the Phuket Bus Terminal in Phuket Town.

Vans from Krabi to Phuket cost more but there are options to be dropped-off right in the area you are staying. E.g. Jolly Travel offers van transfer to Kata and Patong beaches for THB500.
