Nha Trang to Da Nang Destination Reviews

The train departed on time which is always appreciated, and my bed was reasonably comfortable with the proper air temperature. It arrived 1 hour earlier than planned, but overall it was a pleasant trip.

The train itself is nothing special but we got there and managed some sleep so that’s a win.

Buscabins itself were fine, bit grimey (take a spare sheet to stay clean), but we booked the longest trip possible in order to get a full night of sleep. The itinerary said it would take 8.5 hrs, and would arrive around 8am. We were dropped on the side of the road at 4am instead. Of course we accounted for an hour or so in variation but this was absurd. The driver was incredibly unclear in their instructions during the ride and didn’t make any effort to convey information. They just yelled at us. We really hoped the negative reviews weren’t the standard but unfortunately, this does seem to be the norm.

The experience was fine overall, and would have been great but was unfortunately tainted by the man taking tickets for my carriage. As I boarded with a large backpack and medium hand luggage bag he started yelling at me with very little English and me no Vietnamese. He told me to leave my bags in what appeared as staff sleeping quarters and demnanded money. First he took 300k dong (from 500k dong note with 200k change), but when I asked to take a photo of his name badge to follow up with the company he gave my money back and took instead only 200k dong. He was very loud and aggressive from the beginning of the interaction. I calmly padlocked my big backpack that he wouldn’t let me take to my cabin but I insisted my hand luggage stayed with me. When we got to my cabin, I apologised to the two people already laying, as the man was still yelling at me. I told the travellers (one French backpacker and one Vietnamese doctor) that he had taken my bag up the front and made me pay. The foreigner used google translate to communicate with the train worker and asked him to calm down. The foreigner retrieved my backpack and asked for the money back but the man was aggravated again waving money around but not returning it. I was flustered and confused how much money i had paid in the moment. The man was very angry I had photographed his name tag. Eventually, we clarified with other workers, I should not have paid any money and my bag was ok to be with me. I was grateful towards the two gentlemen in my cabin for standing up to this man. The workers name was Dào Quang Minh. I urge all solo female travellers to be wary of this scam when using this trip. I have chosen instead to return to Saigon via plane as this interaction left me feeling somewhat unsettled, a shame as I have always preferred sleeper train travel in Asia and used this method of travel often over the last 20 years.

The night train from Nha Trang to Da Nang was much better than we expected! We reserved soft seats for our 11 hours trip, it was clean, confortable and they even had blankets for us. The train station was well organised and the train left and arrived on time. Overall, much better than our experiences with buses in Vietnam ❤️

Train went on time, nice cabins and “clean” beds. You’ll get a clean pillow and blanket that’ts wrapped in plastic. The only negative thing is that the beds are really hard. And if you have a lot of luggage with you, it could be a problem if you share the cabin with others. We hadd 2 large backpacks that fitted on top perfectly (since we choose the upper beds). The train moves a lot during the trop, but could still sleep well. We’ve taken the train twice now and will do it again to travel from Da Nang to Hanoi.

As railway service requires a large amount of infrastructure, most railway companies are government-owned and are a part of the national transport system.

One of the best advantages of travelling by train is that railway stations are often conveniently located within or very near major cities and urban areas. Immediately on arrival to their destination, travellers find themselves in close proximity to important facilities like hotels, supermarkets, and hospitals.

If you travel with a lot of bags and luggage, trains are your best option. Luggage weight limits on trains are rather flexible and allow you to carry multiple bags with you.

Special or luxury trains feature sufficient legroom which allows you to stretch your legs and relax. In comfort and space these train seats can be compared to business class airplane seats.
