The train ride was great, however booking with 123go a challenge to avoid all the extras they want to upsell to you. A simple purchase at the train station would have been better.

I went by train and returned by bus. Train is a great experience and the ticketing and seat reservation worked perfectly. Return bus was late by a half hour and caused me a lot of anxiety but when it came the bus was new and VIP standard. the driver was safe and the drop off smooth. However there is a distinct lack of information at the pickup spot in Hue. there is no signage or dedicated bus stop so if the bus is late the passenger does not know what is happening.

Tourist train between Danang and Hue. Having not been on the Vietnam rail network before it was a very interesting experience throughout. The carriages are old (my seat would only stay in the fully reclined position) but it all just seemed part of the experience as we moved through the hill sides and flat lands between the two cities. There is a lot of development/building work on going around the coastal areas to the North of DaNang which detracts from the scenic views of the coastline in places but there is still enough unspoilt area to enjoy. The train was on time, both for arrival and departure. With it being ‘The Tourist Train’ be aware there will be touts for taxis and lodgings ready to greet you on the platform when getting off the train
