Sapa Lao Cai to Hanoi Destination Reviews

HH
We’ve upgraded to the Queen cabin. The cabin is so spacious. There’s a queen size bed and 2 chairs. Lighting in the cabin is beautiful.

Train ride was lovely… Unfortunately they didn’t feel the need to notify passengers that arrival time would be over an hour later than expected. Causing us to miss our connecting flight and losing our money, having pay for new flights. If notified, would have had time to change our flight time…

Comfortable, clean train, with drinks and snacks, on a scenic line between Lao Cai and Hanoi. The train was one hour late on a seven hour journey.

For this price comman areas should be better. Toilets and sink was dirty. There was no sop. Cabin was ok, but A/C was really too cold and we couldn't turn it off.

We took a Livitrans sleeper train from sapa to hanoi and the experience was… mixed, to say the least. While the cabin looked decent at first, things quickly turned strange. At the station, a woman without any uniform approached us offering a cabin upgrade for a lower price. She led us onto the train and showed us the room — which we ultimately declined. Oddly enough, we were placed in the upgraded cabin anyway, for free. Seemed like a hustle that didn’t fully go as planned. Later, a conductor came by trying to sell us the upper two bunks for cash. It felt sketchy, like an unofficial transaction. On top of that, we could literally smell the toilet from our room — not exactly what you'd expect from a “premium” experience. Overall, the train got us from A to B, but the constant hustling and lack of transparency were tiring. If you're expecting Western-style service or cleanliness, you’ll likely be disappointed. *Rating: 2/5 Would only recommend if you manage expectations and don’t mind a bit of chaos.
