Pongsathorn JOverall, I wasn’t very impressed with the bus service from Hanoi Airport to Sapa.
The most critical issue was that the bus arrived in Sapa one and a half hours later than scheduled. Surprisingly, this didn’t seem to concern the local passengers, which made me wonder if such delays are considered normal.
Communication throughout the trip was quite difficult, especially for non-Vietnamese speakers. However, I appreciated that both the driver and the attendant appeared to do their best. They were polite and handled the trip quite professionally despite the language barrier.

John EWe were told to travel to T1 for pick up so paid for a taxi there, only to ha taken back to T2 for the bus. Pick up instructions were not clear.

Chanel ZThe bus was late for almost an hour. It was too hard to sleep and rest as the driving was way too fast which made it more shaky and unstable. I felt very unsafe with the way he drives. Honking was present the whole 6 hour ride, literally every now and then. Too annoying.

Daniel BWell, I got to Sapa eventually, but the trip itself just was an “experience”:
I was waiting at the bus stop for my 11:30 pm bus 30 minutes before the announced departure. 11:26 a bus pulled up, the driver came to the meeting point, asked “Sapa”, we replied with yes, he put on a cigarette, returned to the bus and pulled of. Very strange.
Next bus (11:50) the driver came showed some names, some people boarded. We asked him what bus he was (we guessed he might have been the 10:30 pm, but no English at all.
I contacted the “12GO premium customer support” that cost me 5 AUD, and within 30 minutes I had a reply that my bus would arrive in 15 minutes.
Well, as there was no bus for another half an hour, so I contacted them again, I did not receive an answer for the next 8 hours. Luckily my bus showed up at close to 1 AM.
The whole time you are surrounded by taxi drivers who will tell you that your bus won’t come anymore and you have to take a taxi for 2 Mio VND. They refuse to leave and try to get uncomfortably close to you…
The bus itself is fairly new, but has a pretty bad smell to it. Cabin should be fine, unless you are a big European.
After arriving in Sapa, they apparently organise a hotel transfer free of charge, but do yourself a favour and either walk or take a Grab (3 AUD) unless you really want to wait around for another 30 mins.
All in all, this trip gets the job done but be prepared to wait

Vong LThe bus ride from Hanoi to Sa pa is right on time. You do get twisted and turned from time to time but overall, it was comfortable. HK Buslines is the company I went with. They have free shuttle to the hotels within Sa Pa. Definitely recommend vip bus going to Sa Pa. It's my first time book through 12go.asia and everything went smoothly.
