It was supposed to be first class, but you had to wait in line with everyone else, except business class passengers. The back of the seat was hard. The train was quiet and did not induce discomfort for me. There were sick bags in the pocket. I rarely if ever get seasick. The train seems to be built for higher speeds than it travelled at. Mobile phone availability was very spotty once the train entered the mountains. Many long tunnels after about 1/3 of the distance. Although at the stations this line is called the Lao-China Railway, on the train they consistently say China-Lao Railway.

I arrived 5 minutes late for the train. I lost my ticket. I couldn't get a refund. I had to buy a new ticket and continue my journey.

I paid to be picked up and taken to the train station. However, as it turned out, the wording on my instructions was not at all clear. Because I did not have telephone service, I had to deal with the instructions sent to me. They did not seem to have a specific time for pickup so I followed what was said in my instructions. Which was, If there is no time given in the instructions, then the pickup time is the time mentioned. None of it made sense to me but I got ready for pickup early and waited. No one came. As it turned out, the time mentioned was the train departure. I was never given a time for pickup. This procedure needs to be fixed. In the end, once I found someone who would help me that had a phone, we contacted Family Services and once the operator understood what happened, he rebooked my ticket and sent a taxi for me, which I paid for. I appreciated this but the wording and information exchange needs to be fixed.

Train comfort was really good. Just one thing regarding the transfer from the hotel to the train station : the company didn’t confirm us a pickup time, we had to call them.

Purchase process was smooth but the confirmation time makes it a bit stressful as you pay for something available but you don't know when it may be confirmed. Nevertheless, it was confirmed within the 18 hours period time.
