Ho Chi Minh City Port to Da Nang Destination Reviews

JB
Travelling by train is always an experience compared to flying. I would not recommend a top bunk though, very difficult to access and limited space. Obviously made to accommodate the Vietnamese not Westerners.

Cabin was not super clean, but it was okay. They don’t clean it after every passenger. Toilet was smelly like every toilet in trains, there was a sink with running water and soap. In total nothing surprising for a night train (not great not bad), for the price still good deal. i like the views. It was on time.

On arrival a woman was in my seat that I had booked on the bottom bunk and refused to move, I was made to lie on the bed above and even when the guard came, he spoke to her in Vietnamese and claimed I had the right seat. There was a strange man in the cabin who was kicked out for having the wrong ticket, he was coughing and spitting into a bag on the table. I don’t advise this journey if you have multiple very large bags, I had to lift my backpack myself to the very top of the cabin without any ladders. The beds do not have curtains. Be advised that you aren’t able to sit up in the beds, they are very small and coffin like. Would recommend booking a bottom bunk which allows you to do so more comfortably.

The trip itself was really fine. The beds are confortable and were very clean. I slept very well with few interruptions. However, it is true that the driving was really fast and scary and at the begining they kept stopping to pick up random things, like, no exageration, each 10 minutes. But appart from that everything is perfect. We arrived at the expected time. Also they stopped for us to get dinner. It is also true that they changed us the departure time to two and a half hours before and only with a few hours noticed.

First class is outdated and dirty. Staff think it's a good idea to play tictoks on their phone at full volume at 6am outside the first class sleeping berths when everyone is trying to sleep, you'd think common sense would prevail but evidently not. Rats in the cabin too.

It's a loud train and felt incredibly disgusting. I took another train with another company after and it was much better. While the toilet was being cleaned throughout the nice, it didn't feel clean at all at any stage. That said, the welcoming thing was the view and the boiling water tap, which allowed me to heat some noodles I purchased at the train station. The bed was firm and the train was loud and rickety so please bring ear plugs.
