The overall experience could be 4 to 5 stars, but the lack of communication prevented that. Another negative point was on Cat Ba Island. The guide cancelled our hotel drop-off because he confounded us with another guest. Can happen, but shouldn't happen that you are lying to guests by saying the bus can't go there because it is a one way road. As an excuse he wanted to book an electric cart for us, but we ended on the back of a scooter with our luggage.

We got a piece of sweet bread and a small bottle of water, which we appreciated in this enormous heat. The bus was comfortable and well airconditioned. The only negative thing was that one cannot go to toilet anywhere during the 2+ hour trip.

First bus from Hanoi to the shore was fresh and clean. We crossed the sea to Cat Ba via the gondola which was a nice surprise (and probably saved quite some time vs taking the ferry). In Cat Ba the driver even dropped us off at our hotels.
