Siquijor to Bohol Destination Reviews

The supposedly “fast” ferry is only half an hour faster than the normal/slow ferry but substantially slower. Plus the slow ferry has beds instead of seating. Also, I didn’t like the fact that they charge 100 Pesos extra for luggage which one must check-in. The seating was ok but not especially comfortable. Overall the ferry is ok but overpriced

Why Bohol is famous?

Bohol is renowned for its unique geological formations, particularly the Chocolate Hills, a series of over 1,200 conical hills. It is also famous for its tarsiers, one of the world's smallest primates, found in the Tarsier Sanctuary.

The island offers beautiful beaches on Panglao Island, attracting divers and snorkelers to its coral reefs and diverse marine life. Historical sites, such as the Baclayon Church, showcase Spanish colonial architecture.

Bohol's local cuisine includes specialties like peanut kisses and kalamay, a sweet sticky rice dessert. Transportation is facilitated by tricycles for short distances and buses or van rentals for longer travel. Tap water is not recommended for drinking; bottled water is advised.

Is Bohol the best place to retire?

Bohol offers a relaxed lifestyle, which is appealing for retirees. The cost of living is moderate, with monthly expenses ranging from PHP 30,000 to 50,000 ($530 to $880) depending on lifestyle. It has a mix of quiet beaches and rural areas, offering both tranquility and local community engagement.

Healthcare: Access to medical facilities is limited compared to major cities, but Tagbilaran has hospitals with essential services. Consider proximity to Cebu for advanced medical care.

Transportation: Public transport includes tricycles and buses. Renting a motorbike or car is common for convenience.

Dining and Shopping: Local markets, small shops, and a few supermarkets are available. Dining ranges from local eateries to international cuisine in tourist areas.

Water Quality: Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Use bottled or filtered water.

These factors make Bohol a viable option for retirement, though personal preferences for healthcare and amenities should be considered.

Which month is the coldest in Bohol?

The coldest month in Bohol is typically January. During this time, temperatures can range from 23°C to 29°C (73°F to 84°F). While Bohol does not experience extreme cold, January is part of the cooler season, influenced by the northeast monsoon. Travelers should still expect warm weather but with more comfortable humidity levels compared to the hot months. This period is also less rainy, making it a favorable time for outdoor activities and exploring attractions such as the Chocolate Hills or Panglao Island.
