Kuala Lumpur to Malacca Destination Reviews

DH
Scheduled bus 1 hour late, was transferred to another bus which was full. Slow 2.5 hour day trip due to traffic. Bus fitted with curtains which were all closed, very claustrophobic.

The ride was quick and well organized. We were surprised that it was really possible to reach Malakka in 1:45 h (when there is no traffic jam). The AC was - as usual - relatively cold, but we were prepared and wore clothes with long sleeves. Getting the boarding passes at the check-in was confusing, because the staff did not know what to do with the 12go voucher. Apparently, they need a booking or ticket number which is neither on the voucher nor in the e-mails. However, the clerk was helpful and created a manual boarding pass for us.

Is Uber more expensive than taxi in Malacca?

Uber and local taxis in Malacca are generally comparable in cost, but prices can vary based on demand, time of day, and distance. A typical short ride within the city might cost around 10-15 MYR ($2-$3) for both Uber and taxis. During peak times, Uber fares may increase due to surge pricing, making them more expensive than taxis. Taxis often use meters, so ensure the driver switches it on. Both options are convenient, but Uber can offer the advantage of cashless payments and route tracking. It is advisable to compare the estimated fare in the Uber app with the taxi meter rate for the best option at the time of travel.

Is cash accepted in Malacca?

Cash is widely accepted in Malacca at most shops, markets, and small businesses. However, larger hotels, restaurants, and retail chains often accept credit cards. It is advisable to carry some cash, especially for small purchases or in areas where card facilities may not be available.

The local currency is the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), and ATMs are readily available for cash withdrawals. Note that some ATMs may charge a fee for international cards. Always keep some smaller denominations for convenience in street markets or for public transportation.

Is Kuala Lumpur less touristy than Malacca?

Kuala Lumpur is more touristy than Malacca. As the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur attracts numerous visitors due to its blend of modern attractions like the Petronas Twin Towers and cultural sites such as the Batu Caves. It offers extensive shopping, dining, and entertainment options, appealing to a wide range of tourists.

Malacca, a UNESCO World Heritage site, draws visitors interested in history and colonial architecture, including landmarks like A Famosa and Jonker Street. While popular for its cultural heritage, Malacca generally experiences fewer tourists than Kuala Lumpur, offering a more relaxed atmosphere.

Both cities provide unique experiences, but Kuala Lumpur is busier and more cosmopolitan. Travelers seeking less crowded destinations might find Malacca more appealing.
