it was a great experience to take the train from Colombo to Kandy for the first time. The booking process via 12Go was super easy.

This is not a reflection on 12go but the train ride itself. Unfortunately the first class cabin was nothing like what we had expected. My husbands tray table was broken so it kept falling every time the carriages recoupled. The seats were ok and the AC was very mild. What made the trip unbearable was the fellow passengers; 1. The family (2 adults and 2 children under 10) in our isle was screaming the entire way. Not screaming as an upset child just screaming at the top of their lunges with no recourse from the parents. Then the two boys started climbing over the seats. Literally climbing over the top from the one side to the other. The fathers response was to turn up the sound on his mobile and no attempt to calm the boys. After the mother fed them sugar filled biscuits she then found a seat at the back of the carriage and slept. 2. The other family behind us had a child who found it fascinating to allow the tray table to drop and then push as hard as possible to get it back and kick the seat. This continued for 4 WHOLE HOURS! The white noise on my noise cancelling headset as not even enough to block everything out. This has resulted in us cancelling our return trip (with no refund) and booking a car as no money is worth sitting through that again.

Tickets delivered to our hotel ready for us to collect on arrival. We booked first class tickets well in advance, bit disappointed we didn’t get a window seat between us.
