Hidroelectrica to Cusco Destination Reviews

We booked a taxi from Hydroelectrica to Cusco. Unfortunately, what followed was a very chaotic journey. First, we got into a car that got a flat tire after just a few turns. We then switched to another car, which took us to a nearby restaurant. There, we saw several other travellers and a large coach. We had expected a smaller minibus, but that was no problem as long as we would eventually get to Cusco. However, it turned out that there had been a mistake in counting the number of passengers, meaning there were too many people for the bus’s capacity. There also seemed to be an issue with the bus itself, and everyone was asked to get off. Unfortunately, there was very little clear communication from the company. Two women appeared to be desperately trying to find a solution and contacting people in their network, while all the travellers were left waiting without knowing what was going on. Eventually, we were put into someone’s taxi, with our luggage strapped to the roof. Unfortunately, we soon encountered a road closure, which was obviously beyond the company’s control. After waiting for around 1.5 hours, we were finally able to continue our journey. In a small village, we switched taxis again, this time to a much more comfortable minibus where our luggage could be safely stored inside. We also had a good driver. Further along the route, however, we were stopped again for around three hours because of flooding across the road. Eventually, after local people had placed some rocks to make the crossing possible, our driver made the brave decision to cross and continue towards Cusco. In the end, the journey took around five hours longer than expected. We have to give credit to the final driver (who we believe may have been from a different company) for doing his best and getting us safely to Cusco. Overall, though, it was an extremely chaotic and stressful day, with poor communication and several changes of vehicles. We understand that some delays, such as road closures and flooding, were completely out of the company’s control, but the lack of organisation and communication made an already difficult journey much more stressful than it needed to be.

The Good thing is: We arrived in Cusco. But the journey was very adventurous: First, they told us that there was no space for us. They found some bus, but it left an hour later. Mid-way we had to change bus, but our new driver hadn’t received the money from the agency, so they told us either we have to pay extra or we wait until they have a response from the agency. It took them 40 minutes to resolve everything, but at least we didn’t have to pay extra. Also, the drop-off point was not as agreed, but 20 minutes walking from the city center. All in all, a stressful experience.
