Places to eat in Phan Thiet

As [Phan Thiet lies on the coast](/en/vietnam/phan-thiet], it is well known for its delicious seafood. Whether you eat in restaurants or street food markets you’ll know the dishes are prepared with fresh seafood and local ingredients. Here we give you a rundown of our favourite places to eat in Phan Thiet and our top dishes to try while you are here/

Rice&noodles

Pham Van Dong Street in Phan Thiet is our favourite place to start when it comes to food. With a huge variety on offer, you can come here day after day and try something different each time. You can pick up a decent main meal for around USD3-5 usually focused around rice or noodles with some fresh meat or fish too. You can find Phan Van Dong Street by heading south of the Trang Hung Dao Bridge along the Ca Ty River.

Seafood

One of the dishes Phan Thiet is most famous for is spade fish salad or gỏi cá mai. This is a fish native to the waters around Phan Thiet so is a very traditional dish. It comprises spade fish (a bit like anchovies) barely cooked in vinegar or lemon and served with crisp herbs and vegetables such as carrot, chillies, shallot and basil and peanuts on top. Of course, it also includes a splash or two of fish sauce which this region is famous for! This fresh dish is well worth a try if you enjoy seafood.

Grilled squid ‘teeth’ (_răng mực nướng) are another local favourite. These can be picked up as a snack throughout the city and even at the train station so you can eat as you go. Both Pham Van Dong Street and Nguyen Tat Thanh Street offer this local delicacy.

In the early afternoon you can dine on some savoury snacks such as bánh căn which are little fried cakes with a topping of meat, green bean or shrimps sprinkled with herbs, peanuts and fish sauce. You’ll see these being cooked by street food vendors with a large metal hot plate with căn cake sized moulds. The best places to pick up bánh căn are Bà Xù House on Ngư Ông Street or Number 8 Hải Thượng Street.

Pho

If you don’t fancy seafood, fear not, Phan Thiet offers many other dishes for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. You can always get a classic pho at Pho Ba Tuet if you don’t want to try some of Phan Thiet’s more ‘out-there’ cuisine. Find this little pho joint on Yersin, south of Hai Thuon Lan Ong and Truong Cong Dinh Street.

Desserts

Another firm favourite is Sweet Delights. Here you can find everything from noodles and rice to hamburgers, pizzas and sweet treats such as ice cream, cakes and other baked goods. This is often regarded as being the best bakery in Phan Thiet. You could easily while away a day here enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner; perfect for people working digitally (free wifi) or stopping off for a few days during their trip through Vietnam. The homemade ice cream and beautiful macarons are well worth a try!

With a view

Of course, you can also head down to the seafront at [Mui Ne](/en/vietnam/mui-ne/food] for a wider choice of food and some great cocktail spots overlooking the sea. Many of the waterfront restaurants and bars offer a selection of Vietnamese and international cuisine. Sandals, Lacheln and the Dong Vui Food Court all provide great options.
