Pros & Cons of Ferry Travel
Pros of Ferry Travel
- Taking a ship is the only way to reach the islands. And in Thailand in many cases the best way to get to some of the most beautiful, postcard and paradise islands you have always wished to go!
- Book online to save time – on many routes, booking in advance is an absolute must. Especially for the longer trips and trips on busy periods like national holidays, long weekends or high season. It is a good idea to book at least several days prior to your travel date if your route is served by a limited number of trips per day.
- Traveling by speed boat is fun. It is always nice to have a look at the places you have visited from another angle – well, in this case – from the sea. Almost any destination looks terrific from water and you will have a great opportunity to take brilliant pictures.
Cons of Ferry Travel
- Getting seasick is the major concern for boat travelers. The longer the trip and the rougher the sea, the higher are the chances to feel your stomach protesting. To make your trip more enjoyable, take medication against motion sickness half an hour before your trip and follow our recommendations below.
- Speed boat trips are highly weather dependent. It means that on rainy days it is recommended to protect your valuables and electronics in plastic bags or dry bags, and to wear rain jackets. It rarely happens that speed boat operations are stopped during stormy weather. We usually run whatever the weather, and the trip can be unpleasant in case of rough seas. Ploysiam Speedboat captains are very experienced and used to difficult sea conditions during the monsoon period. If you prefer to travel on calm seas, you should keep the possibility to postpone the date of your travels in case of a storm and keep it in mind if your boat trip connects with a flight – chances to get to the mainland later than expected can be high during certain periods.
- Beverages are not sold on board, so we advise passengers to travel with their own drinking water. It can be hot during the journey when the boat stops at other islands and it is important to stay hydrated.
