Mae Sariang Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Mae Sariang offers a decent choice of budget options many of which represent a really great value. It is not the place to search for all modern comforts though there are several mid-range accommodation options, too.

Close to the river on Laengpanich Rd you’ll find a good choice of simple and relatively inexpensive guesthouses. For something a bit more upscale you can either move out of town if you want to stay on the river or check offerings along the main road that passes through Mae Sariang.

Budget

One of the cheapest places in town, Northwest Guest House (81 Moo 12 Bankad) doesn’t have a direct river view as it sits on the other side of Langpanich Rd. But if you’re on a really tight budget then this is probably your best bet. The two-storey building made completely of timber has his own old-school charm and the rooms, though quite basic, are clean and welcoming. The cheapest ones come with a fan and a shared bathroom for THB200 (low season) while THB400 buy you a double room with an air-con and private bathroom with hot shower. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and the small restaurant attached offers basic Thai dishes at Thai fares (THB40 and up).

The owner, Tukta, is very friendly, talkative and helpful. If you need it, they rent bikes and bicycle and they also organize 1-day or multi days tours.

Within a 10-minutes’ walk away from the river along the main road you will find Maeloegyi Guest House (17/1 Soi 4 Wangmai Road). It has nice and spacious private bungalows starting from THB500. They are all complete with an air-con, a big private bathroom with hot shower, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and a fridge. They also have the only hostel style accommodation in town but we found it quite expensive compared to the price of the bungalows. At THB350 we wouldn’t even consider it as an option.

Maeloegy offer free pick up service from the bus station if you book in advance and you can also use bicycles for free what is in fact quite handy to go to and from the river.

We also spent a night in The Good View guesthouse and though the room itself was rather unmemorable – but clean (two beds, a fan and a private bathroom (THB300) – it had some kind of a private terrace with a couple of chair facing the river what was absolutely spectacular! The owner draw ‘a map’ for us and gave a couple of recommendations on how to plan our route the next day and all of his suggestions turned out to be great. They have a bit more expensive rooms on the upper floor, too.

Mid-range

Opposite The Good View, on the other side of the road, there are very nice looking spacious bungalows with large windows and rather an unpronouncable name – Huen Kham Kong. All smartly decorated, with air-cons, boilers, TVs and private terraces they are very appealing (THB800).

Slightly more pricey and a bit out of town, Black Ant Coffee & Resort (113/1 Moo 12, Laengpanich Rd) is a deal if you have your own means of transport or if you don’t mind to walk 15 minutes to reach the city centre. With a beautiful location right on the river, this little wooden building offer swell decorated spacious rooms with air con, Wi-Fi, cable TV and hot shower. All the rooms have a nice private balcony overlooking the river. Staff speak basic English, enough to help you with tips and recommendations. Rates start at THB800 for a double room with breakfast included.

From the same owner of Coriander in Redwood (see the food section), one of the best solution on the river is Riverhouse Hotel (77 Langpanich Rd). The whole property is built of teak and all the furniture is entirely wooden handmade. All the rooms are well decorated and feature fantastic large windows overlooking the river. Air-con, Wi-Fi, minibar and breakfast are included in the room rates which start from THB850 in low season and go up to THB1500 in high season for the best rooms. A nice wooden terrace at the ground floor is a perfect spot to watch the sunset from a hammock or a sunbed.

Top End

50 meters away you will find the elder brother of the Riverhouse Hotel, Riverhouse Resort (6/1 Moo 2 Langpanich Rd) which we include in this list only because it is the only up-scale option you have in town, without having to move away from the river. No doubt the rooms are nice, spacious, well-furnished and with all the other amenities which you can expect to get paying THB1400/THB2500 for one night, but the huge concrete building looks quite disturbing in a nice little town like Mae Sariang.
