Though the project is subject to a more detailed study, the targeted locations to get new marinas have already been mentioned. Five destinations in the Gulf of Siam have been chosen. They are Chumphon, Trat and Sattahip, in Chonburi province, all sitting on the eastern shores of the Gulf; Koh Samui in Suratthani province, in the lower part of the Gulf; and Prachuap Khiri Khan with the most probable spot for construction situated in Prachinburi district, on the western shores of the Gulf. It is not yet clear wheher any location on the Andaman Sea is considered to be a part of the project.
Currently there are totally four marinas in the country. Three of them – Ocean Marina Yacht Club Pattaya, Siam Royal View Koh Chang and Racer Marina in Pran Buri – are located in the Gulf. The fourth one is the Royak Phuket Marina, the only marina in the Andaman Sea which supports 736 berths, while the three Gulf marinas have 615 berth all together.
It is estimated that the Thailand Riviera project will cost 7 billion Baht and will eventually allow Thailand grow into the main marine tourism hub in the Southeast Asia.
