the first driver from Georgetown to Hat Yai was good but the second driver from Hat Yai to Krabi was terrible, he had 4-5 breaks for smoking and he almost ran down the motorbike

Bus from Penang left promptly but with limited space for luggage (mostly stacked up on top each other on a back seat). The stop for immigration might take longer for those with International Passports (please note this may then effect the overall journey time). We arrived in Hat Yai for 3:30pm with the bus to Krabi being at 3:40. Once we changed buses, our driver made numerous stops to collect “private passengers” along the roadside. I can only imagine this is to make a few extra pennies with empty seats. In doing so, we arrived 2 hours late in Krabi. The journey was smooth, although it’s worth noting that the drivers do drive fast (110kmph+) and the seats are a little dated with some seatbelts not working.

Although it was a long trip, about 8.5 hours on the road with a change of minibus In Hatyai, I could not fault the service, it was quite comfortable although it. Was only about half full, and the driver went out of his way to drop me off outside my hotel in Krabi in monsoon rain conditions!

An interesting ride... We arrived at the terminal 30 mins early (as instructed) only to wait for another hour before boarding, while the driver chatted and smoked with the office staff. Once we set off we were going incredibly fast until the boarder crossing for Malaysia to Thailand and began the hour long customs procedures. This is when we found out that the driver had unpaid fines when a government official stopped us from passing. The driver was short more than half of the penalty which all the passengers had to crowd fund in order to continue our journey. After clearing the border we made it to a undesignated drop off area and were told to exit the vehicle and wait for another bus. There was no information on our tickets to suggest that this would happen so you can imagine our confusion with the minimal information and language barrier. After waiting for 10 minutes a taxi collected us to take us to another bus stop (after collecting another passenger) and we boarded another bus for the final leg of the trip. Overall, this is a very basic service where you as a passenger are at the whim of the organisers and whatever undisclosed arrangements that they have. The locals seem to be well informed and weren't phased by any of the driver's antics, despite arrinving more than 3hours later than anticipated.

The vans were tighter then normal, it never got cool in the van so it was very hot, and we arrived over 2.5 hours past the scheduled time.

We booked George Town to Krabi and were supposed to leave at 5 am, check in 4:30. The whole bus terminal was closed with the lights off at every store and New Asia Travel didn't answer when we called them on Whatsapp. We walked around for an hour trying to figure out where to go or what to do when a van pulled up at 5:30. The driver had to bang on the door of the travel office to wake the guy who was sleeping inside to help us. We got in and then picked up other people from around town and went back to the bus terminal to leave at 6am. In retrospect, this would all have been perfectly on time if it were on Thai time, but the booking did not specify that it was giving hours for a different time zone. Leaving Malaysia I would assume that times are posted in Malaysian time, or maybe everything really was a whole hour late. The border crossing was easy, and we got switched to a different shuttle in Hat Yai. We got to Krabi around 3:30 instead of the expected 12:30, which made an already long ride even longer. Then, at the travel shop the woman charged us 100 more baht each to drop us off at the boat to Railay, which felt like should have just been included in the price we paid for the bus because it dropped everyone else off at their destination without a problem. She also told us the boat was 50 baht each when it was really 100, so we ended up paying 300 baht more than we expected to for the day, and were too exhausted from an 11 hour bus ride to do much about it. We should have just flown.

We booked the 08:30 from Georgetown with estimate arrival in Krabi at 15:00. The New Asia Travel office was well marked and easy to find at the Komtar Bus Terminal. We confirmed our online booking and received our boarding passes. Our van arrived around 08:25, the driver walked around in front of the office looking at peoples' tickets to make sure they boarded the correct van. The van left on-time, around 08:35. Our van was completely full (10 passengers and the driver). We made two stops before the border for bathroom breaks; at the second stop, the driver collected passports from all the passengers and completed Thai immigration paperwork and collected 7 RM per person. The border crossing was very easy - van dropped us at queue to exit Malaysia and picked us up at the other side (less than 10 minutes); then we were shuttled to the Thai immigration building to enter Thailand, they accepted passports and immigration paperwork provided by the driver with no questions and the van was waiting for us again on the other side (15 minutes). Everyone left their bags on the van during this time and we were not asked to go through customs. At this point, we were hopeful that we would be in the same van for the duration of the trip. However, after about another hour of driving, the van stopped at another travel office. A man asked for passengers for Krabi and we were asked to get off the van. At this travel office, the attendant accepted our boarding passes and exchanged them for another boarding pass. In about 5 minutes, another van pulled up and we were told to board. This van was also full (every seat had a passenger and some seats were loaded with furniture). This van stopped at a rest stop/restaurant for bathrooms and lunch (there was an ATM, if needed). We arrived in Krabi town at 16:30 (approximately 1.5 hours late - there is also a one-hour time change between Malaysia and Thailand). It is a long travel day and not particularly comfortable, but the vans were new looking, the border crossing was easy, and the transfer process was relatively seamless.

It took way longer than the published 1200 - 1830 just arrived at 2230 which was a bit unexpected. That said we had our own private mini van from Hat Tai after changing buses and the driver was a total legend. Everyone moaning just needs to get a bit more realistic frankly
