Hoi An council to set up behaviour and dress code for tourists

The city council in Hoi An is in the process of draughting a code of behaviour for visitors to follow. The main item on the list of rules will be the establishment of guidelines on what tourists can and cannot wear when visiting the iconic Vietnamese town.

Commenting on the provisional draught, mayor Nguyen Van Dung explained that tourists seemed to think it was okay to stroll around the Old Town in skimpy clothing that left little to the imagination. He carried on by saying that some even visited religious sites such as Quan Cong Temple or Chuc Thanh Pagoda without donning respectable attire.

The mayor noted that Hoi An had to take care of its heritage and culture and not just sell out to the power of the dollar. Quang Nam Province tourism director Dinh Hai stated that the code of conduct is still on the drawing board and is awaiting amendments to the national rules on tourism.

Hoi An is one of Vietnam’s best known tourist destinations. It is a must as a stopover for tourists taking the Reunification Express between the north and south of the once divided nation. 12GO ASIA provides travel options to Hoi An from locations that include Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hanoi and Da Nang.
