Tourist police division in Thailand on recruitment drive

The chief of Thailand’s tourist police says the department is about to double the number of its officers.  Chief Surachet Hakpan stated that the department will recruit another 825 officers to increase the total to more than 1,700.

The chief continued by saying serving officers with foreign language skills would be given priority and especially those with good spoken English, Chinese and French. He said recruiters would also be seeking officers who were well versed  in police procedures and who were able to empathise with tourists.

Chief Hakpan noted that a significant increase in the strength of the department’s manpower would enable it to function better and maintain a more visible presence. Officers will also be able to respond to any incidents quickly and create a feeling of security among the 15 million overseas visitors who come to Thailand every year.

The Thai tourist police maintain stations and kiosks in all the main hubs. These include Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Bangkok and Hua Hin. People travelling to these destinations will find 12GO ASIA is the most practical choice for tickets.
