The statement added that to facilitate travel for the festive season the national rail operator would be adding extra trains to the timetable on its four main routes. These are to the south and Hat Yai, two northeastern destinations and Chiang Mai in the north of the country.
The SRT noted that passengers would be able to purchase travel tickets at any station from 05:30 onwards on their day of travel. As a footnote, the statement added that extra staff and security personnel would be on hand at stations to assist passengers.
The New Year holiday comes just before a weekend this year and many Thais will get a full five days off work. Many use long weekends to travel and this puts pressure on public transport across the whole of Thailand.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has added some extra services to its timetable for the forthcoming New Year holiday period. The SRT explained that all of its trains for the period between 30 January and 4 January were fully booked.
