Ayutthaya Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

There’s a large choice of accommodation in Ayutthaya, especially in the budget and the mid-range, while luxury hotel and resorts are quite hard to find.

Since many people choose to make just a day trip and to go back to Bangkok to sleep, rooms are almost always available, and even in the high season you are unlikely to be left without a shelter, though the most popular digs do fill up quite fast.

Tip We do recommend you to book in advance during weekends from November through February and in Songkran (between 13 and 20 April).

In all the other periods if you don’t mind to walk around a little bit and you’re on a tight budget, no reservation is needed – many of the cheapest guesthouses don’t have any website and not listed on any of the major booking websites.

Budget (THB100-THB1000)

For people on a budget, Ayutthaya is one of the few touristic places in Thailand that still offers crazily affordable rooms. Just head to Farang street (Uthong Road) and small sois around it and you will have plenty of choices of guesthouses and hostels that will fit your budget.

The area is located in the northeastern part of the island, just off Naresuan Road. Keep in mind that the whole area is quite busy and noisy at night; it is sometimes referred to as the Khaosan Road of Ayutthaya, and even if it doesn’t reach the level of craziness of the original one, if you’re searching for a peaceful night, this is not the place for you.

A typical representative of Farang Street type of accommodation is Good Luck Guesthouse (12/26 Naresuan Rd). Surrounded by bars and pubs, it’s perfect if you need a bit of a party after the day of sightseeing and if you don’t mind a really basic room with shared bathroom (always clean anyway). A single room with fan comes for THB150 while more expensive double rooms with air-con and private bathroom are THB600. Still a steal for being so close to the historical park.

For just a few more baht, you can move away from the chaos of Farang Street but still remain within a walking distance from it if you want to enjoy a night out. Just walk to the northern end of Farang Street and take a left on Pamaprao Rd where you will find Baan Lotus (20 Pamaprao Rd). It’s a lovely wooden guesthouse with a relaxing terrace with hammocks in the back over the lotus pond. Double rooms with fan and shared bathroom are THB350 and THB600 – with air-con and ensuite bathroom.

Mid-range (THB1000 – THB2000)

Options in this price-range are scattered all around the island. Expect to have a nice spacious room with an air-con and private bathroom, free Wi-Fi and usually free breakfast as well. Mid-range hotels and guesthouses tend to be found in quiet and peaceful spots, away from the noise, and often enjoy fantastic location close to the ruins. It is definitely a much more family oriented solution.

Right in the middle of the island, close to Wat Mahathat, you will find Prom Tong Mansion (23, Pathon Rd, Pathon Soi 19). Rooms there are big, well furnished with charming accents and comfy wooden beds. The owners have another hotel nearby where you can use the swimming pool for free. There is also a good choice of restaurants just around the corner. The staff are extremely helpful and is always ready to provide any information that you need. Rooms start at THB1100.

A wonderful alternative on the southwest of the island is Athithara Homestay (Uthong Road 21). Located right on the northern bank of the Chao Praya River, it’s a new wooden guesthouse built as a classical Thai villa. Rooms start at THB1200, and with THB1900 you can have the deluxe one.

Top end (over THB2000)

There’s not really a big choice in this price range, but if you head down the Chao Praya River, close to Athithara Homestay, you will find Sala Ayutthaya (Uthong Road), a recently opened 4-star hotel with a fantastic view over Wat Phutthaisawan, on the other side of the river. There are all the facilities you would expect from a luxury hotel but be prepared to pay THB5000 for a double room.
