Names of Restaurants Featured in Michelin Guide Thailand 2020 Announced

This week, the Michelin Guide has announced the star awards to Thai restaurants which made it to the new 'The Michelin Guide 2020 Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Phang-nga 'edition.

The 2020 edition of The Michelin Guide Thailand includes a total of 282 restaurants. 29 of the venues mentioned in the guide are lauded with Michelin stars and 94 bear Bib Gourmand status that recognizes wallet-friendly eateries that offer high-quality food.

This year, two more Thai restaurants joined the two-star category – wow. While Bangkok has been featuring several 2-star restaurants, they specialize in international cuisines –Le Normandie serves modern French cuisine, Mezzaluna calls itself an experimental European dining venue, and Suhring showcases the best of modern German fare. So it is actually the first time ever when the Thai venues received two Michelin stars. The heroes are celebrity chef Chumpol Jangprai’s R.Haarn, a Thai fine dining restaurant specializing in royal court-style cuisine; and Sorn, appreciated for its elegant presentation of Southern Thai fare, both in Bangkok.

Thailand is the 29th country in the world that has its own Michelin Guide. The first edition of the Michelin Guide Thailand saw light in 2017 and included exclusively restaurants and eateries in Bangkok. In 2019, the guide went beyond the capital to explore the budding food scene in the tourist hotspots in Phuket, Phang-nga and Chiang Mai.
