Airbnb Guests Choose Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Options

More and more Airbnb guests are looking at how they can reduce the impact of their travels on the environment and seek to book more sustainable and eco-firendly options. The trend is expected to grow during this year.

During 12 month from April 1, 2018 and April 1, 2019, the platform's eco-friendly listings grew 30 percent globally; similarly, bookings of eco-firendly properties and spaces were 50 percent up worldwide; in absolute numbers, over 4.5 million guests opted for eco-friendly listings.

Here is the list of the destinations in Asia Pacific with the largest choice of eco-friendly options on the platform:
Trat, Thailand
Sabah, Malaysia
• Rāmnagar, India
• South Grafton, Australia
• Niseko, Japan
• Gangwon, South Korea
• Lugu, Taiwan

If you are after sustainable options, look for small-town escapes rather than major cities. Be it  a treehouse in a teakwood forest in Thailand, or an eco bamboo hideout in the mountains of Bali’s Mount Agung, or an eco-luxe recycled shipping container in Australia, eco-friendly listings enjoy growing popularity.

In Thailand, for example, more and more Airbnb hosts offer their guests immersive experience that allow travellers to stay closer to nature and reduce their carbon footprint while away from home. This includes both staying options and a variety of activities that are often off the beaten track and less invasive for the environment. If in Thailand, consider visiting Doi Inthanon National Park Chiang Mai; checking Grand Canyon Thailand Nature Walk, Chiang Mai; joining Bamboo Bicycle Tour in Green Bangkok!, Bangkok; hiking to Nateen View Point, Krabi; staying at Authentic Hill Tribe Villages, Chiang Mai.
