Airports of Thailand proposes inter-terminal rail link for Don Mueang

Thailand’s main airport operator has proposed building a rail link at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport. The president of the Airports of Thailand (AoT) says that the link would connect the facility’s two passenger terminals, car parks and hook up to the capital’s urban rail system via the as yet unopened Red Line.

President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn explained that the total length of the Don Mueang Airport Link would be around seven kilometres. He noted that it would improve passenger throughput capacity at Bangkok’s second airport and also enhance the arrivals and departures experience for passengers.

AoT specialists have been tasked with carrying out a feasibility survey which is expected to be completed within the next six months. If the project comes to fruition, it is likely to be an Automated People Mover like those featured at airports such as Seoul's Incheon and Kuala Lumpur.

The initial estimated cost of such a system is THB1 billion and would take three years to build. Don Mueang currently handles more than 30 million passengers a year and is Thailand’s second busiest airport. 12GO ASIA offers ticket choices on flights departing from Don Mueang for destinations including Phuket, Chiang Mai, Yangon and Hanoi.
