Developer proposes cable car link for Ho Chi Minh Airport

A Vietnamese development company has proposed the construction of a cable-car connection to the country’s busiest airport. A spokesperson for Vu Huy Thang explained that cable cars would enable passengers to avoid getting stuck in the almost gridlock traffic conditions in the streets leading to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The developer says building cable-car stations in the nearby parks of Go Vap and Hoang Van Thu with links to the airport would provide passengers with a means of avoiding the main airport approach route, Truong Son Street. The Vu Huy Thang proposal says supporting pylons for the cable-car line could be built on the dividing strip between the carriageways on Truong Son.

The spokesperson noted that the cable-cars would only travel at 25kms per hour yet this was far quicker than any taxi or passenger van could reach. The approximate cost of building the complete system is a little over US$20 million.

Vu Huy Thang has gained a certain expertise in building cable-car links in Vietnam and past projects include the system linking the Vinpearl island resort to the seaside town of Nha Trang. 12GO ASIA offers ticketing services to Tan Son Nhat Airport from locations including Bangkok, Hanoi and Da Nang.
