Rain stops play at two Koh Samui island waterfalls

Due to flooding and swollen rivers, authorities on Koh Samui have ordered the temporary closure of two waterfalls. Phaiboon Omark is the chief of the local administration on the southern Thai island and he says the waterfalls are just too dangerous to visit at present.

He carried on by saying the cascades in question are Na Meuang and Hin Lat. He added that although the two were popular destinations for both Thai and international visitors, safety was of paramount importance.

Streams, rivers and waterways on Koh Samui and much of the remainder of the far south of Thailand have been turned into raging torrents by heavy rain over the past week or so. In the interior part of the island close to Hin Lat, residents have been shifting their belongings away from low-lying ground.

Tickets to Koh Samui are a perennially popular buy on the 12GO Asia website. The 12GO travel team says that despite the wet weather, Gulf of Thailand ferries between Chumphon, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Suratthani are still operating.
