Historical parks covered by the exemption include those at Sukhothai and Ayutthaya as well as the ancient Khmer ruins of Phanom Rung in Buri Ram and Phimai in Nakhon Ratchasima. The national museums in Bangkok and Chiang Mai in addition to the iconic Bangkok Royal Barges Museum are among the 30 facilities offering free entry.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s governor, Yuthasak Supasorn, stated that the facilities were offering free entry in honour of the memory of King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away last month. He carried on by saying the archaeological parks and museum exhibits show how Thailand has evolved through the ages and become the unified entity it is today.
