New Lonely Planet book lists budget friendly Bangkok destinations

A book just released by Lonely Planet has a whole section dedicated to enjoying the delights of Bangkok on the cheap. Entitled The Best Things in Life are Free, the book details 18 top Bangkok destinations which are either free or only cost the equivalent of cents and pennies.

The award-winning Artist's House, or Baan Salapin in Thai, sits alongside a canal in the Thonburi region of Bangkok and is Lonely Planet’s premium selection for an interesting low-cost excursion. The house is a lovingly cared for traditional structure with several unique statues and live puppet performances.

Other top-notch recommendations in The Best Things in Life are Free are the world-renowned Chatuchak Weekend Market, the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) and a ride on a Chao Phraya River ferry. Themed activities are eating pad Thai noodles at Thipsamai Restaurant and a glass of craft beer at the pottery-making centre at Koh Kret Island.

Bangkok’s attractions are plentiful and even the more expensive ones like the Grand Palace are relatively cheap when compared to Western countries. Most tourists spend a few days in the city before heading off to locations like Koh Phangan, Krabi or Chiang Mai. 12GO ASIA provides travel reservations services for all major routes in Thailand.
