Thai national bus operator increases fleet size

Thailand’s national bus company is in the process of adding 400 new vehicles to its fleet. At a ceremony staged last Wednesday, the country’s deputy-transport-minister unveiled the first of the new arrivals.

Omsin Chiwaphruek told delegates and Transport Company Limited staff at the ceremony that the leased buses would provide passengers with an enhanced travel experience. He explained that the first 100 buses would be tested on four key routes.

The company will utilise the buses on routes from Bangkok to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Mae Sot and Nakhon Phanom. The trials are due to last until mid-October. If the trials prove successful, the company will confirm lease agreements for the remaining 300 vehicles.

Mr Chiwaphruek stated that the government had allocated THB2 billion for the fleet upgrade. He noted that improved service was of the utmost importance so that the Transport Company Limited could effectively compete with budget airlines.

Last Wednesday was an auspicious day for the Transport Company Limited as it marked the 86th anniversary of its founding. 12GO ASIA is a one-stop source of tickets for trains and buses to destinations throughout Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
