Chief of south Thai national park extols its abundant charms

The chief ranger of a pristine national park in the province of Satun says it has abundant delights and is a worthwhile travel destination. Jarun Khunnarong is in charge of Thale Ban National Park and he says the locale is exactly as nature created it.

The centrepiece of the 48,400 acre southern Thai park is the Kuan Valley Lake. The lake acts as a natural water source for the surrounding greenery and it is always lush and verdant. There are a number of limestone caves, which include Tham Ton Din, to explore on treks around the park.

Thale Ban is also famed for peerless wildlife. Visitors may espy Malayan tapirs and the rare marbled cat. They are more likely to hear glandular frogs than see them. This frog sub-species has a sound similar to a dog’s when it is barking.

Thale Ban and the town of Satun are only 30kms apart. A number of taxi-drivers and travel agencies offer tours to the park. Getting to Satun is easy when you choose 12GO ASIA as your ticketing agent.

We sell bus and train tickets from Bangkok to all the popular destinations in the south. These include Koh Samui, Phuket and Hat Yai as well as Satun. Ferries to Malaysia’s Langkawi Island depart from Satun’s port.
