Strong winds and waves heading for the Gulf of Thailand

The Meteorological Centre responsible for southeast Thailand has warned residents and tourists in the region to brace themselves for high winds and waves. A warning just released by the bureau says strong winds are expected to hit the Gulf of Thailand coast today and will last until Friday.

The statement noted that the winds could generate waves of two metres in height and that provinces all the way down from Surathani to Narathiwat are likely to be affected. This could impact on ferries plying routes from Surathani to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

The Meteorological Centre says the weather conditions are due to the northeast monsoon as well as high pressure sweeping in from China. It noted that skippers of small boats such as fishing trawlers and dive-boats should not put out to sea when the wind is still strong and the sea rough.

The trio of Gulf of Thailand islands plus mainland locations like Songkhla, Bang Saphan and Chumpon are among Thailand’s extensive portfolio of beach destinations. 12GO ASIA provides a simple and easy to use reservations portal for train, bus and ferry tickets to all of them.
