Phuket marine officers inspect Rassada Pier ferries

National Marine Office inspectors have carried out checks on ferries and tour boats operating from Phuket Island’s main port. The inspectors descended on Rassada Pier two days ago to check vessels for their seaworthiness ahead of the busy New Year holidays.

Marine Department Region 5 chief Phuripat Theerakulpisut said he had told his officers to check boats at Rassada and the other 12 public piers dotted around the coast of the island. He said they had been given the mandate of enforcing safety regulations as the wellbeing of visiting tourists was of paramount importance.

The chief continued by saying his inspectors had reported there were less infringements of the rules this year and operators were even keeping to the maximum passenger capacities of their boats. He finished off by saying that thousands of tourists were expected to board ferries and sightseeing cruises over the holidays and he wished to thank boat operators and crews for obeying the rules.

Rassada Pier is close to Phuket Town and on the east coast of the island. Public ferries and speedboats from the port serve locations around Phang Nga Bay which include the Phi Phi Islands, Ao-Nang, Railay and Koh Lanta. 12GO sells tickets for ferries plying most of the routes criss-crossing Phang Nga.
