The joys of the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party

Every month, Haad Rin Beach on Koh Phangan is the venue for what many say is one of the world’s finest parties. As the sun sets on the eve of the full moon, revellers descend on the beach to enjoy the fun. They come from all areas of this Gulf of Thailand island and its near neighbour Koh Samui.

Tables and chairs are set up on the beach so that people have somewhere to place their drinks while strutting their stuff on the sandy dance-floor. Different zones of the beach feature DJs playing different genres of music and it pays to have a wander until you find your preferred style.

Drum 'n' bass, trance and reggae are among music options while most people find themselves drinking from buckets for the first, and probably last, time in their lives. The buckets are filled with local whisky or vodka and Coke or Thailand’s own version of the Red Bull energy beverage.

Koh Phangan is between Koh Samui and Koh Tao. It can be reached from either of these two islands by ferry. There are also ferries from Chumphon and Suratthani on the mainland. 12GO ASIA sells combined bus or train and ferry tickets which provide a seamless means of getting to the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party. The next party is Wednesday 25 November.
