Where to Stay in Koh Rong - Best Value Hotels & Tips

Koh Rong offers a variety of accommodation covering the entire spectrum of possibilities, from tents or hammocks on the beaches, to hostels, hotels, guesthouses, and bungalows.

Long Beach

Those looking for solitude might try Long Beach which is basically deserted and offers hammocks for (USD2/night) or a tent for 2 people (USD5/night) directly on the beach.

Lonely Beach

Another option would be Lonely Beach located on the north side of the island. It is basically untouched by development and has one basic option for lodging starting from USD13 a night, aptly named Lonely Beach (18000 Sihanoukville, Koh Rong Island). This is an excellent place to see the bioluminescent plankton in the water at night.

Koh Touch village & Police Beach

For those that want their own space, but don’t want to be so far away from the excitement of Koh Touch village and Police Beach good options are White Rose Guesthouse and Natural Launge (by Smile). The former offers private rooms for 2 or 4 people from USD10-USD15 per night. It is located on the beach front of Daem Thkov pier, which is the most common drop off point on the island.

The latter has twin, double and triple rooms all under USD20 (although the walls are thin and you can often hear other guests). It can be found by exiting from Daem Thkov pier and taking a left until you see a small sand road that heads north, it is a few minute walk-up this road.

Also worth considering is Smile Bungalow with private rooms for USD10 a night and massage services. It can be reached by walking a few minutes right of Daem Thkov pier.

For those with a higher budget and wanting even more privacy Coco’s offers sea view bungalows for USD35, garden view bungalows for USD30 and deluxe bungalows for USD60. It is basically the first building you will see when exiting from the pier.

For those who want to be near the excitement but are traveling on a budget Thien Ann Guesthouse keeps dorm rooms with a fan for USD5 or a bed outside on a balcony without a fan for USD3 and is located near the main pier of Koh Touch.

Bunna’s Place offers dorms from USD5 per night and is a good place to party. In fact, they proclaim that they are for backpackers “Boogyin' & Boozin'!”. Exit from the pier which has the Koh Rong Dive Center and take a right, you should quickly see Bunna’s Place.

Should you book ahead?

Do note that high season is from October 19th to April 17th and low season is from April 18th to October 18th, during high season it would be prudent to book in advance, as the island still isn’t highly developed and has finite options for accommodation.

What is the most convenient area to stay on Koh Rong?

Those who book accommodation near Koh Touch village (which is where the abundance of accommodation options lie) will find an abundance of convenience stores and local shops selling all kinds of wares, from beach balls, to sunblock, to basic food items, and various beverages.

There are also a plethora of restaurants and small food stands near Koh Touch village. The menus have great variety and very affordable prices, usually ranging from USD1 to USD5. Fresh cold fruit smoothies can be bought from locals with small stands for only USD1. It is also the place where the travel agencies aggregate.

Additionally, there is a pharmacy there, but no ATMs.

If you are unfortunate enough to not bring enough money (like us) or decide to stay longer than planed many places will use your card to get you cash with a 10% fee. There are also many places that exchange money, most commonly Thai baht. However, some places – e.g. pharmacy – trade euro and Singaporean dollars, too, and even Malaysian ringgit.
