Trang Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
Staying in Trang is perfect for those wanting to experience its amazing food and cultural scene. Most of the accommodation is clustered around the train station in the city, along the coast, or on the islands. Ranging from backpacker, budget, to 5-star resorts, there is a place suited for everyone to rest their weary heads.
In town
Starting in town, just a mere stone’s throw from the train station and night market, there is a number of affordable and characterful guesthouses, as well as a few larger properties.
A more modern abode opened in 2015 and seconds away from the train station is Mitree House. Though not the cheapest (from THB750), it includes air-con, hot water, breakfast and has generous amounts of communal space, an ideal way to meet the fellow traveller.
A couple of doors down is the Sri-Trang Hotel which has been in operation since 1952. Having a hostel vibe but without the dorms, a standard double room with air-con starts at THB640. Some larger rooms share a balcony that overlooks the train station and is the perfect place to relax with a beer and watch the hustle and bustle of the night market. Its lower level hosts a cafe interestingly named 1952, which serves up some western food alongside some local favourites.
Further away nearer the clock tower but worth a visit even if not staying there, is the long-running Yamawa Guesthouse. Cheap and basic fan and air-con rooms start at THB350. Rooms are a little rough around the edges, made of thin bamboo and wood, noise can be an issue, but they are immaculately clean. What makes this place magical is the husband and wife team running it. They’re knowledgeable on recommendations for restaurants and sights and offer a variety of books, brochures, and maps.
Dorm lovers rejoice as A Local Something Hostel has you covered. Each bed has a light, outlet and dividers separating them, and rooms come complete with air-con and lockers. Rates start at THB390. For the ones who value their privacy, they also have privates starting at THB1430.
PJ Guesthouse is another cheap backpacker option. Rooms are basic, and only have fans and bathrooms are shared with cold-water showers. Prices between THB150-200 per night. The lady who owns the guesthouse speaks fluent English and can rent you a motorbike or help book further travels.
Ban Ao Thong Hotel sits next to a fantastic coffee shop (kopi). Its common areas are a mishmash of interesting decor. The rooms are clean and equipped with wifi, hot-water bathrooms and fridges. Rates start at THB650.
The newest kid on the block, Chom Trang Hotel has 12 modern rooms with private balconies. A double room with air-con and private ensuite are priced at a reasonable THB650.
About 5 km from the clock tower is Rimnatee Resort. It has clean and modern rooms with comfy beds and air-con and has a swimming pool onsite. Prices start at THB700 for a double room with garden view.
On the coats
If you want to head to the islands, there is everything from tents to stylish resorts, but if you just want to head to the coast without the ferry ride check out Anantara Si Kao Resort and Spa. The resort has 140 sea facing rooms with spacious private balconies situated on a private 15 km stretch of beach. It features three restaurants, two bars, a swimming pool, health club, and spa. Rooms start around THB2700.
No matter the style of accommodation preferred, Trang has something guaranteed to suit any budget while offering quite the value for your money.
