Rayong Things to Do

Whilst Rayong town itself does not have much in the way of tourist attractions, the province has a bit more to offer, especially if you enjoy the outdoors and keeping active. There’s enough to do (especially for families with children), to keep visitors entertained for two or three days, before heading onwards to Koh Samet.

Khao Chamao–Khao Wong National Park

If you enjoy a spot of hiking and swimming, Rayong province is home to a great national park, Khao Chamao–Khao Wing. It’s located about 70km to the east of Rayong town (along Sukhumvit Road), and you can only visit if you have your own transport, as there aren’t any public transport options.

If you are up for the journey, you’ll be rewarded with waterfalls and some jungle trekking, too. The trek takes around 6km and is relatively easy, although if you don’t fancy a walk, the first waterfall pool for swimming is very close to the park entrance. During the rainy season, the currents can get quite strong so weak swimmers and children should be supervised. If you are looking for a bit more adventure, you should definitely attempt the hike up to the top of the waterfall – the scenery and nature is worth the effort! The entrance fee is THB200 per adult (THB100 per child) and is open daily from 6am till 6pm.

The Park Adventure Land

Nature-lovers will also enjoy The Park Adventure Land, a peaceful resort tucked away in the remote countryside of Rayong province. The main attraction here is a mountain biking track, and for the thrillseekers, you can upgrade your bicycle for an ATV!

There’s also an orchard, with all you can eat fruit in certain months, kayaking on the lake, a deer farm, and a swimming pool. It’s a great place to take children, and they have a range of accommodation options, too, if you fancy an overnight stay. It’s located about half way between Rayong town and Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park, so both could easily be combined for a multi-day trip exploring the eastern side of the province.

Strawberry Town

It’s also very close by to the quirky Strawberry town, an amusement park with animals, obstacle courses, rock climbing and more. It’s not the most impressive of places, but there’s enough for kids to do to keep them occupied for the afternoon, and it could also be considered a local experience, as you’ll most likely be the only tourists there! The grounds of the park are also well kept and picturesque in parts, so it’s a pleasant place for a stroll at the very least.

Rayong Adventure Park

Another family-friendly attraction is the Rayong Adventure Park (Choeng Noen), which is located only 5km outside of Rayong town, so can easily be reached by public transport or a taxi. The park is home to a number of pools, waterslides and obstacle courses, which will keep kids amused for at least an afternoon. It’s popular with locals and can get quite busy at the weekends, so it’s best to visit during the week to miss the crowds. Most of the attractions are aimed at children, so you might want to skip it if you don’t have any!

Without transport, most of the above attractions (excluding the waterpark) are not easy to get to unless you hire a motorbike or car.

City Walks

However, Rayong town itself is still a pleasant place to stay for a couple of days before heading to Koh Samet. A stroll around Yomjinda old town is very enjoyable, as is a visit to the Wat Pa Pradu temple (Sukhumvit Soi 49), which houses some very interesting Buddhist art and a 12-foot long reclining Buddha, beautifully decorated with gold leaf. Or, you can head to the coast where there are several peaceful beaches and some great resorts too. All in all, Rayong province may not be a popular tourist destination, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit!
