Loei Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Loei does not see many foreign tourists what means that English is rarely spoken here. Yet the choice of accommodation is decent and if you decide to make Loei your base for exploring its outlying attractions, you won’t have hard times looking for a shelter for the night.

Budget

Located close to the river few hundred meters north of the night market, Sugar Guest House (Soi Wisutthithep 2) is the best choice in town for backpackers and anyone on a budget. It’s a small and quiet guesthouse where making you feel at home and treating you like part of the family seems to be the life mission of Pat, the super friendly owner who speaks a really good English and will go beyond herself to help you to get the best out of your staying in Loei.

The guesthouse occupies a two storey building with a nice garden and a gazebo which is ideal to meet and have a chat with the few other travellers that might be staying at Sugar.

At the ground floor a couple of quite spacious double rooms come with a private bathroom (and hot shower) while at the first floor the rooms are still of a decent size but share a bathroom. Everything is always spotless and even if the rooms are nothing fancy, the general atmosphere will make you feel instantly welcome.

Besides giving you any information you need about Loei and the province, Pat can also rent you a motorbike. Rates start at THB200 for a single room with a fan and shared bathroom while the most expensive ones with air-con and private toilette come for THB380.

Mid-Range

Just a short walk west of the clock tower, Indiego Space (1/24 Ruamphattana Rd) offers modern and spacious rooms with an air-con, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and a nice private bathroom with hot shower. All the rooms are well designed in a minimalist style, and some of them come with a dining area. The bigger ones can host up to 4 people and are ideal for a family with children. The location is perfect to comfortably walk to the night market and the few attractions in the city centre but if you want to explore Loei further afield they offer bicycles for rent.

Rooms start at THB700 for the standard ones while the bigger studios come for THB1000. You will be given the option to add breakfast for THB100; we didn’t find it a good value for money but overall it’s not easy to find a lot better than that in town (unless you go for a Thai breakfast).

Top-End

We would not call the options below ‘top end’ but they are arguably the best you can find around.

Located in a quiet and green spot west of Kut Pong Public Park, The Secret Loei Resort (482 Moo 1 Loei-Dansai Road) offers nice and big rooms in a small garden with a swimming pool and a beautiful view of the mountains. The free use of the barbecue at the swimming pool area and a couple of cold beers at sunset will guarantee you a great evening. All the rooms come with air-cons and a reliable Wi-Fi works throughout the whole property.

Standard rooms come at THB1300 while the bigger ones large enough to host 4 people cost THB2000.

For the same prices, Loei Palace (167/4 Charoen Rat Road) offers more luxury but less charm. It is the only 4 start hotel in town. The beautiful location on the east side of the river in a green area contrasts with the horrible massive nine storeys building. Nevertheless the rooms are the best you can get in Loei, big and well furnished with large bathrooms with marble decoration. A big swimming pool sits on the outdoor terrace and the staff are quite friendly and with good English speaking skills. Prices start at THB1200 for a standard room and goes up significantly for the better suites.
