Lamphun Hotel, Hostels and Resorts

Lamphun does not have an impressive range of accommodation options, but you still can find decent deals in all the price ranges. If you are visiting the Doi Khun Tan national park, consider staying there as their bungalows are surprisingly a good value.

Budget

Located right in the heart of the old city, Khanom Cheen (Ratchawong Rd, behind city hall) would be the perfect guesthouse for everyone with a tight budget willing to sleep close to all the historic attraction if it wasn’t for one small detail; at the moment they only have one room and there’s no website or email address to book in advance. The room (THB300 for the night) is quite basic but spacious and comfy, without air-con and it comes with an attached bathroom. They have plans to build a proper guesthouse in the near future and when it happens it will be the first one available in the city centre. Meanwhile you can give it a try and if the room isn’t available, stop at their restaurant for lunch; as you can guess from the name, khanon cheen is their main thing, but they also have other noodle dishes and more Thai options.

Moving north 1,5 km along the main road to Chiang Mai, The First Resident Lamphun (22/5 Soi Jakkam, a little street off Charoenrat road) features quite spacious and clean rooms with air-con, flat screen TVs, private bathrooms (only cold shower) and free WI-FI. The buildings is not particularly appealing and some of the rooms would need a bit of renovation, but for THB460 this is one of the best options you can get in town. Plus the owner is a lovely lady, very friendly and helpful, always ready with a lot of recommendations and useful information.

Mid-Range

On the east side of the river just a few hundred meters from the city centre, Easy Hotel (2/7 Lamphun-Doiti Rd) would be our first choice in the mid-budget range. Recently opened and occupying a newly built block, the rooms are spotless, beautifully designed and furnished, with comfortable beds and thick mattresses, flat screen TVs, air-cons, WI-FI and nice modern bathrooms with hot shower. The neighbourhood is quiet and pleasant, and a back road will take you to the temples which help avoid walking along the highway. Some good Thai restaurants and massage shops nearby will keep you busy for the while evening. Ask the staff for recommendations and they’ll be more than happy to practice their basic English.

Top End

Going west from the city centre along Chammathewi Rd for 500 meters and you’ll find Jamadevi Lamphun (80 soi 40 Chammathewi Rd), a four-star hotel which is – quite surprisingly! – just one of the luxury accommodation options in town. Rooms are massive with all the essentials you would expect to get in an upscale hotel. Tastefully furnished, all rooms come with spectacular bathrooms; some of the rooms – what is reflected in the rate – have a big spa bathtub while others come with a modern shower. All the rooms have a nice balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the nice garden, ideal for a drink at sunset with your loved one. Rates start just over THB2000 and because of several room types on offer as well as great facilities and proximity to the old city this would be our pick if we were up for a splurge. Just a pity it doesn’t come with a swimming pool.

Accommodation in Doi Khun Tan NP

If you visit Doi Khun Tan National Park, bungalows available at the headquarters are a great options to spend a night al fresco. Bungalows come in various sizes and comparing them with the ones in other national parks, they’re newer, better maintained, conveniently located and not overpriced. Quite a rarity for Thai NPs, small bungalows accommodating just 2 people are also available for THB500. All the units come with private bathrooms and hot showers, none has air-con (not needed anyway). If you want to camp, bring your own tent or rent one at the spot.
