Koh Si Chang Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Accommodation options do not lack on Koh Si Chang. Many come in the form of bungalows allowing you to soak the island atmosphere though only few resorts sit close to the beach. In most cases you will need to either rent a motorbike or use tuk-tuks to get to the beach or to other attractions on the island.

Budget

Located next to the pier, Tiew Pai Park Resort (8 Moo 2, Tambon Tha Thewawong) is the cheapest option in town and honestly we would take it in consideration only if you are really on a horseshoe-string budget. A single room comes for THB200 and a double room –for THB300, a real bargain for any island, is it not? For this price you can expect a small and quite cheerless room with nothing more than a hard bed and a fan and with a shared bathroom which, although clean, isn’t particularly appealing. Some of the bungalows with private toilettes are actually nice, but for that price other solutions are definitely better. The location is not bad being close to everything you might need at night – 7/11 included, – but you’ll need to walk 2 km or get a tuk-tuk to get to the beach (but this is the case for the majority of the accommodations).

If you want to sleep right on Tham Phang beach, the only option is Tampang Beach Resort and surprisingly it is also one of the most affordable options on Si Chang with fan rooms and private bathrooms (only cold water) starting at THB500. This is not a place for those looking for some peace and quiet – thanks to low prices and a great location the property attracts lots of youngsters willing to party at night, and since the ‘’town’’ is 2 km away they’ll end up doing it on the beach right in front of your room. The restaurant on site offers good and fresh seafood and a few more options to eat are available next door.

Mid-Range

Right south of Tiew Pai Park Resort, Charlie’s Bungalows (39/2 Moo 2, Tha Thewawong) is our choice to go whenever we visit Si Chang. The cosy modern bungalows arranged around rather a spacious garden and are all nicely designed and furnished. Each bungalow comes with an air-con, Wi-Fi, a flat screen TV and a beautiful attached bathroom with hot shower. There are also tea making facilities what is some kind of a rarity in this part of Thailand.

All the bungalows have their own porches overlooking the garden and as far as they set not wall-to-wall to each other, your privacy will be guaranteed. Everything is always spotless here – it is arguably the cleanest place we’ve ever come across during our travel in the region! – and the staff are super friendly and ready to give you any information and recommendations you may need.

Charlie’s sits close to the restaurants area, but you’ll still need to walk a fair bit to the beach. If you’re planning to rent a motorbike or a bicycle for your holiday this is the right place to do it (even if you decide not to stay here). The limited number of bungalows makes the reservation necessary during weekends.

A standard bungalow comes for THB1000, while a bigger two-bedroom one, ideal for a family of four people, will be THB2000. They also offer additional floor mattresses for standart bungalows for THB300.

Top End

If you’re up for a splurge, Paree Hut Resort (60 Moo.3 Tha Thewawong) has a terrific location right on a cliff dropping into the sea just south of Haad Tham Phang. The best bungalows are the traditional wooden ones, organized around a small swimming pool with dramatic views especially at sunset. They all feature environment-friendly design and follow the principles of sustained tourism. The whole place is fantastic and you can enjoy it to the fullest stretching over one of the sunbeds on a spectacular wooden deck. No need to say that the best choice is the bungalows sitting right on the cliff edge. A nice breeze from the sea will make you forget that there no air-cons in these bungalows – you have to put up with the fan.

Several less appealing huts in the back yard are bigger and air-conditioned but we feel they kind of miss the magic of the simpler ones. A good restaurant offering Thai dishes and seafood is available on site, and more options can be found on Tham Phang beach. A fan bungalow comes for THB3400 while an air-con one for THB3900.
