Koh Kood Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts
Nearly all of the accommodation options on Koh Kood are scattered along the west coast, most of which are close by to at least one gorgeous beach.
Which area to choose
If you are looking to stay somewhere with more than one restaurant, the best areas are Ngam Kho, Bang Bao, Taphao or Khlong Chao. The quieter areas are Ao Phrao, Ao Jak, Ao Ta Khian, Sai Daeng and Khlong Mat.
Unlike on Koh Chang, there are not many super budget options available, and the cheapest places are off the beach near Khlong Chao. If you have a bit more to spend, there are plenty of resorts to choose from. Before choosing a resort, check out our article about Koh Kood’s beaches. Whilst it’s possible to explore all of the beaches quite easily, being able to step out of your resort straight onto your favourite beach is much more convenient!
Northern part
At the northern end of the island, there are two places worth recommending. The first is Bann Makok (superior double room from THB2,500), a midrange resort that’s a great choice for couples. It’s a charming and rustic resort, with an open-air dining room and views over the surrounding mangroves and river. They also provide kayaks so you can take a paddle to the beach or to the nearby Khlong Yai Ki waterfall. This is a really nice resort if you want to just take it easy and enjoy some quality time together as a couple.
The other resort is the luxurious Soneva Kiri, a magical place with unbelievable ocean views and five star facilities - including a chocolate room and private cinema! The villas here start from around THB21,000 per night (double room villa), all the way up to THB520,000 (five bedroom deluxe villa)! This would be perfect as a honeymoon destination, but you will definitely need to book as it’s often hired out for wedding parties.
Khlong Mat & Taphao beach
Heading south to Khlong Mat beach, Koh Kood Beach Resort (rooms from THB1,500) is a friendly and relaxed option that’s perfect for families. They have a swimming pool, lots of lawn space for kids to run around on, and a private beach.
Slightly along the coast at Taphao beach, Shantaa Resort (superior double room from THB4,500) also has lovely grounds and a beach exclusively for guests. This is another great choice for couples.
Khlong Chao
Next along is Khlong Chao, the most developed area on the island, and home to a number of pricey beachside resorts that were originally designed for package tourists.
Many of them are not particularly worth their price tag, but Away Resort (rooms from THB4,000) is nice and represents the best value for money. However, it’s quite a walk to Khlong Chao beach (about 30 minutes each way), and you’ll have to put up with a lot of speedboat noise. Most guests either swim or kayak to the beach, which might not be possible of you have small children. Still, this is the best resort in the area, and is great for guests who want to be close to a number of restaurants and the island’s only ‘nightlife’.
Off the beach at Khlong Chao is where you’ll find nearly all of the budget options on the island, so this is essentially the backpacker region. Several good options include Cozy House (double room with fan from THB200) and Mangrove Bungalow and Restaurant (bungalow with fan from THB1,000). The former has the best backpacker vibe and is by far the cheapest option on Koh Kood.
Ngam Kho
Further south, Ngam Kho beach has some good options that are slightly more down to earth than those at Khlong Chao. Koh Kood Ngam Kho Resort (bungalows from THB500) is perfect for backpackers, but you’ll want to head over to the beach at Dusita Resort (bungalows from THB900) nearby. It’s a slightly more expensive option run by a very friendly and welcoming family. Flashpackers and families will enjoy this great value resort.
If you don’t mind being off the beach, Happy Days (double rooms from THB450) is also a good budget option, and is owned by a friendly guy called Mike who also runs the diving school next door.
Sai Daeng beach
Close by, Sai Daeng beach is home to the A-Na-Lay Resort (bungalows from THB800), which isn’t the best but it does have two swimming pools.
Bang Bao Bay
Next along is Bang Bao Bay, which is one of loveliest beaches on the island and probably the best spot for sunset views. Flashpackers and families should consider The Beach Resort (double rooms from THB1,200) or Koh Kood Resort (double rooms from THB1,400). The resorts may not be very special, but Bang Bang Bao beach is, so they are definitely worth checking out.
Southern part
Finally, in the southernmost part of the island, Ao Ta Khian, Ao Jak and Ao Phrao beach each have a single resort worth mentioning.
Ao Ta Khian is the most beautiful of the three, and the accommodation here is the rustic Pa Hin Sai Bungalows (from THB1,500). Whilst it could do with a bit of care and attention, the real reason to stay here is the stunning beach, which was easily our favourite on the island.
At Ao Jak, Koh Kood Neverland Beach Resort (double rooms from THB1,600, deluxe bungalows from THB2,200) is low key and good value.
At Ao Phrao, most accommodation is aimed at Russian tour groups, who are big fans of this beach. The only decent option is For Rest (double rooms from THB600), but even that isn’t very good. Instead, you should just stay at one of the other quieter beaches and only visit this beach for the day.
