Siem Reap Airport passengers top three million

Cambodia’s civil aviation authorities have released a statement saying that passenger arrivals at Siem Reap Airport had topped the three million mark. In the statement, the CEO of Cambodia Airports said the country’s second busiest airport attained the milestone figure in 2014.

CEO Emmanual Menanteau said the number of passengers opting to fly to Siem Reap was a testament to the airport’s enhanced services and an increase in the number of airlines offering service. He added that the milestone was reached just two years after the airport welcomed two million passengers in one year.

The blossoming popularity of Siem Reap and its famous Angkor Wat temple ruins caused the airport to start expanding its facilities. Developers at the airport began extending the passenger terminals one year ago. The expansion is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

Once the expansion is complete, the airport’s maximum annual passenger capacity will be five million. The airport is six kilometres from downtown Siem Reap and slightly to the west of the massive UNESCO designated temple complex.
