Phuket's New Campaign Draws Attention to Old Town

The “Pearl of the Andaman Sea”, Thailand's popular island of Phuket, has been facing strong competition from Indonesia and Vietnam recently. To preserve its status of one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, the island will put focus on Phuket Old Town now.

Phuket's brand new “Endless Discovery” promotion campaign highlights the variety of local tourist options on offer and showcases Phuket Old Town as a prime destination for culture, relax and culinary experience.

Even those tourists who have been visiting Phuket beaches for years often miss out Phuket Old Town. Old Town promotion campaign will help incite interest for Phuket's historic quarter encouraging tourists to explore the island beyond its beaches. While the Old Town has been putting efforts to attract tourists for the whole decade already, only recently – thanks to the power of social media – it has felt the influx of visitors.

CNN has recently included Phuket Old Town on its list of Asia’s 13 most picturesque towns alongside with Malaysian George Town and Hoi An in Vietnam. Besides, Thailand’s Fine Arts Department and Phuket are planning to apply for registering Old Town as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Last year, 2.2 million travellers visited Phuket Old Town, a 167 percent increase compared to 2017.
