Passenger Traffic in Cambodian Airports Show Robust Growth

Airports in Cambodia recorded strong growth of passenger traffic during January–June 2019 supported by opening of new air routes that connect the Kingdom with destinations across Asia.

Cambodia's three major international airports, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, handled 6 million passengers between January and June, some 15.5 percent more than during the same period in 2018.

Over 3 million passengers flew in through Phnom Penh international airport, 2.2 million used Siem Reap International Airport, and about 755,000 travelled through Sihanoukville International Airport. While the latter handled the lowest number of visitors, it also showed the most impressive growth in passenger traffic of about 210 percent.

in June, Emirates opened a new daily service between Phnom Penh and Dubai, while Citilink inaugurated the first direct flight between Phnom Penh and Jakarta. Regionally, Cambodia is now connected by direct flights to every country in Asean except Brunei

Following the suit, Bangkok Airways, a Thai boutique airline, has scheduled the launch of their direct Suvarnabhumi–Sihanoukville flight in January 2020. This July, the Thai subsidiary of Malaysia-based AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, has also performed thair maiden flight between Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport and Sihanoukville.
